Summary:
Achieve program approval and maintain compliance of the hospital wide Cancer Program. Responsible for assuring the timely and accurate assignment, submission, and abstracting of diagnostic and procedural codes from clinical records. ???

Responsibilities:
  • 1. Establishes procedures for case finding, abstracting, and follow-up of all Cancer patients seen at The Westerly Hospital, and enter new cases into the database. Maintains quality control of case finding, abstracting, and coding and follow-up procedures.
  • 1.1 Serves as the Cancer Program liaison between all departments, State agencies, and accreditation bodies.
  • 1.2 Report all newly diagnosed/treated cancer to the Department of Health within 180 Days of the first patient contact.
  • 1.3 Return all State audit-related reconciliation materials within 30 days of receipt 100% of the time.
  • 1.4 Assure accuracy of information in the hospital database 100% of the time.
  • 1.5 Abstract information from cancer patients'' charts into the registry database
  • 1.6 Maintain adequate patient follow up rate for 5 years and over the life of the patient. Standard being over 5 years = 90% over life.
  • 1.7 2. Achieve and maintain physician staging compliance by working with Pathology and other departments to ensure staging forms are available and completed appropriately.
  • 1.8 Completion of staging forms by physician 90% of the time.
  • 1.9 Work with physicians to assure timely completion of appropriate staging forms.
  • 1.10 3. Manage and facilitate the process of Cancer Registry activities with those of the Cancer Program, Cancer Committee and Tumor Conference.
  • 1.11 Support, facilitate, and coordinate a minimum of 4 Cancer Committee meetings per year.
  • 1.12 Develop agendas keeping program on track for approval/compliance and take accurate meeting minutes.
  • 1.13 4. Assemble and disseminate tumor registry data.
  • 1.14 Prepare routine and special statistical reports.
  • 1.15 Prepares annual report for Cancer Committee Program.
  • 1.16 Provide data on cancer patient population for hospital planning and administration.
  • 1.17 Prepare narrative reports and graphic presentations; design tables, charts, and graphs of tumor registry data.
  • 1.18 5. Facilitate the completion of all activities on the Cancer Program Approval.
  • 1.19 All accreditation requirements are met
  • 1.20 6. Create, revise and maintain all policy and procedures for the Tumor Registry/Cancer Program.
  • 1.21 Revise physician staging policy and procedures.
  • 1.22 Compare Cancer Registry Procedure Manual against current standards and make any necessary changes.
  • 1.23 Outline completed polices vs. ones needing revision or need to be created.
  • 1.24 Create outstanding policies and submit for approval.
  • 1.25 7. Attend one state regional or national education meeting as required under standard 7.2 of the ACoS Cancer Program Standards.
  • 1.26 Enhances professional growth through educational opportunities, either independently or through hospital sponsorship.

    EDUCATION:

    National Tumor Registry Certification required.?????


    EXPERIENCE:

    Extensive knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology. ?????


    LICENSURE:

    Tumor Registry Certification Associate Degree in Allied Health?????


    SPECIAL_SKILLS:

    ACCOUNTABILITY:

    Extensive knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD?O Coding. American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) and Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Result Reporting (SEER) Staging is required. Computer skills are required. ?????
