Summary:
Responsible for the performing the clinical assistant and secretarial functions of the Primary Care Center. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities:
  • 1. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • 2. Checks patients in prior to physician/ provider visit.
  • 2.1 Identifies patient using two patient identifiers and wrist band
  • 3. Performs data entry associated with patient visit.
  • 3.1 Verifies that specimens are labeled properly 100% of the time and with the patient present as observed by supervisor.
  • 4. Practice precaution procedures as required.
  • 4.1 Changes gloves between drawing all patients 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.2 Wears other precaution garments as indicated for precaution patients 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.3 Uses established procedures to dispose of contaminated needles and other phlebotomy supplies 100% of the timeas observed by the supervisor.
  • 5. Performs venipunctures and skin punctures on patients.
  • 5.1 Answers patients questions regarding specimen collection or testing procedures as observed by supervisor and as evidenced by feedback from patients.
  • 5.2 Delivers specimens to the appropriate department/section in accordance with established guidelines with a minimum of errors as observed by supervisor.
  • 5.3 Draws an appropriate volume of patients based on CAP standards current staffing, and workload as indicated byrandom review of work logs.
  • 5.4 Collects specimens in accordance with established procedures and policies with no more than 2-3 exceptions perevaluation period.
  • 5.5 Labels, dates and initials all specimens in accordance with the labeling policy 100% of the time as observed by the supervisor and noted by random review of quality assurance reports.
  • 5.6 Stocks and maintains phlebotomy tray, or stationary blood drawing area the appropriate items as observed bys upervisor.
  • 6. Performs urine collections.
  • 6.1 Provides appropriate collection container to the patient and directs them to the nearest lavatory as observed by supervisor.
  • 6.2 Collects urine specimens according to State, Federal and company guidelines with 97-99% accuracy as evidenced by laboratory feedback and random supervisory observation.
  • 6.3 Labels specimens in accordance with the labeling policy 100% of the time as observed by the supervisor.
  • 6.4 Collects urine specimens for immediate testing or transportation to laboratory for processing according to Hospitalguidelines 96-99% of the time as evidenced by random monitoring by supervisor.
  • 6.5 Test urine specimen with chemstrips according to Hospital guidelines with 96-100% accuracy as evidenced byrandom supervisory observation.
  • 7. Obtains vital signs, routine urine testing and blood glucose testing.
  • 7.1 Obtains patient temperature according to Hospital guidelines with 100% accuracy as evidenced by random monitoring by supervisor.
  • 7.2 Obtains patients pulse according to Hospital guidelines with 100% accuracy as evidenced by random monitoring by supervisor.
  • 7.3 Obtains patients respiration rate according to Hospital guidelines with 100% accuracy as evidenced by rnadom monitoring by supervisor.
  • 7.4 Obtains patients blood pressure according to Hospital guidelines with 100% accuracy as evidenced by random monitoring by supervisor.
  • 7.5 Obtains patients blood glucose according to hospital policy and as evidenced by random monitoring by supervisor.
  • 8. Utilizes equipment as necessary.
  • 8.1 Initializes computer systems as required according to Hospital guidelines and EPIC guidelines with demonstratedaccuracy as observed by supervisor.
  • 8.2 Uses copy machines according to manufacturer''s instruction manuals 100% of the time and reports any non- resolvable malfunctions as observed by supervisor.
  • 8.3 Contacts repair personnel within 24 hours of a non-resolvable machine malfunction as observed by lack of machinedown time.
  • 8.4 Reports malfunctions of computer to HELP desk and supervisor 100% of the time as monitored by supervisor.
  • 9. Completes non-therapeutic functions as assigned by supervisor without reminder.
  • 9.1 Follows correct procedure in performing non-therapeutic functions 90-95% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 9.2 Maintains a safe and clean environment in patient rooms and nursing work areas 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 9.3 Obtains equipment and supplies as requested 90-95% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 9.4 Maintains skills applicable to the PCC 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 9.5 Sets specific realistic goals for self-improvement 90-95% of the time as reviewed by supervisor.
  • 9.6 Completes goals in a designated timeframe 90-95% of the time as reviewed by supervisor.
  • 9.7 Records attendance at educational programs on appropriate form 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 9.8 Accepts constructive criticism and responds by implementing corrective action 90-95% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 10. Performs other duties as required.
  • 10.1 Assists in maintaining medical and clerical supply stocks to a minimum of 100% reserve level as evidenced by feedback from staff and lack of zero supply level.
  • 10.2 Maintains 50-75% attendance level at educational seminars offered in addition to Hospital requirements throughoutthe year as evidenced by course completion entries in ESS
  • 10.3 Refers messages or telephone calls to appropriate resource person within department or Hospital 94-98% of thetime as evidenced by feedback from staff.
  • 10.4 Performs phlebotomy services as required following established Hospital guidelines 100% of the time as evidencedby random monitoring by supervisor.
  • 10.5 Performs electrocardiograms following established Hospital guidelines 100% of the time as evidenced by randommonitoring by supervisor and physician feedback.
  • 10.6 Provides transport when necessary following established Hospital guidelines 100% of the time as evidenced by random monitoring by supervisor.
  • 10.7 Assists in checking expiration dates on vacutainers monthly, as evidenced by monthly walk-thru report.
  • 10.8 Assists in checking floor stock expiration dates monthly as evidenced by monthly walk-thru report.
  • 11. Performs ECG''s as necessary and according to hospital policy. Other information:
    EDUCATION:
    High school graduate or equivalent.
    EXPERIENCE:
    Certification/Certification eligible Medical Assistant or two years experience as unit secretary medical secretary or related field,
    LICENSURE:
    Certification/Certification eligible Medical Assistant preferred
    SPECIAL_SKILLS:
    Proficient keyboard skills, Knowledge of word processing, workers'' compensation and drug screening laws preferred, Good communication and customer service skills,
    PHYSICAL_DEMAND:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and or hear. They may occasionally life and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception,, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate., essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a, case by case basis.
