Provides high quality patient care during pediatric critical care ground and air transports including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines within scope of practice; assesses the nature and extent of illness and injury to establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of the critical patient to the appropriate facility working in collaboration with transport nurse; is qualified to provide care for pediatric patients; responsible for carrying out the mission and goals of Yale New Haven Children''s Hospital assuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.
The Paramedic while on ground transport will function under the direction on the Children''s Critical Care Transport Team Medical Director.
Responsibilities: 1. Provides care utilizing the critical care protocols from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting unit. 2. Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clincial experiences. Communicates educational needs to the Pediatric Transport Managers and Service Line Educator. 3. Practice Development/Positive Impacts 4. Hold and maintain certification in the critical care transport field 5. Effectively practices as a clinical team member within the Children''s ED.
Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Connecticut required, National Registry preferred. Must be in compliance with State Continuing Education requirements as outlined by Connecticut code and DHR regulations for Paramedics.
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Competencies, as defined by the department, must be completed within six months of hire.
2 or more currently active years of experience as field Paramedic / Critical Care Paramedic or flight Paramedic with a recognized EMS pre hospital or Specialty Care Transport Provider
National Registered EMT-P licensed in state.
FP-C or CCP-P preferred
Specialty certification: C-NPT is required within 18 months of hire.
Current certifications in BLS/CPR; ACLS; PALS, PHTLS
Works under the supervision of the Medical Director of Pediatric Critical Care Transport Services.
While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age range served at Yale-New Haven Children''s Hospital. Clinical staff wil have competencies that will incorporate age specific guidelines.
