Responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients in a variety of inpatient and /or outpatient areas as
assigned. Performs other clinical, teaching and administrative duties as may be required.
Responsibilities: 1. Clinical 1.1 Able to interpret physician referrals to perform basic clinical evaluations. 1.2 All patient care responsibilities will be performed consistent with age-specific criteria (see attached). 1.3 Demonstrates technical skill and accuracy in performing basic treatments. 1.4 Develops population specific treatment programs which reflect compliance with established clinical protocols where appropriate, monitors patient responses and terminates treatments when appropriate. 1.5 Sets measurable and appropriate goals which reflect patient/family involvement and seeks appropriate assistance. 1.6 Provides patient and family education. 1.7 Initiates and maintains current records and reports concerning patient course, re-evaluates and updates goals, and plans as necessary, based on patient''s response to treatment. 1.8 Uses equipment in a safe and effective manner. 1.9 Reports malfunctioning or missing equipment to supervisor and takes corrective action to remove equipment from use. 1.10 Assumes responsibility for order of working areas. 1.11 Maintains a high standard of professional accountability with respect to safety, efficiency, effectiveness, ethics and legal issues. 1.12 Demonstrates compliance with all hospital standards and regulations. 1.13 Participates constructively in team conferences, rounds, clinics, and discharge planning, as appropriate. 1.14 Utilizes assistant and support staff and volunteers appropriately in the delivery of patient care. 2. Educational 2.1 Attends department in-services. 2.2 Assists with orientation of staff as appropriate. 2.3 Assists in orientation, education and guidance of support staff. 2.4 Seeks opportunities to expand own knowledge of the profession and related fields. 2.5 Meets required standards for documentation of attended in-services and CEU''s when applicable. 3. Administration 3.1 Complies with Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures. 3.2 Participates in department Quality Assurance activities. 3.3 Plans and organizes daily schedule optimally use time. 3.4 Appropriately addresses patient coverage issues for scheduled time off. 3.5 Carries patient load that reflects productivity standard of unit. 3.6 Maintains documentation in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory requirements (HCFA, JCAHO, etc.). 4. Clinical Supervision 4.1 Participates in regular meetings with supervisor and/or team leader and reports pertinent information on a timely basis. 4.2 Appropriately delegates responsibility to Physical Therapy Assistants and maintains an appropriate level of clinical supervision. 4.3 Reports directly to area supervisor and indirectly to team leader. 4.4 Provides clinical supervision to students as assigned. 5. Human Relations Skills 5.1 Demonstrates respect and regard for dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsive and courteous hospital environment.
Graduate of a CAPTE accredited program in Physical Therapy.
No experience required, but one (1) to two (2) experience in an academic medical center based practice preferred .
Experience working with children and/or adults depending on the assigned setting. Clinical experience with a
variety of diagnoses to include post-surgical, developmental, neurological, genetic, oncologic and traumatic.
Must maintain a current unrestricted license or temporary permit to practice as a Physical Therapist in CT
The individual should demonstrate knowledge in physical therapy theory, evaluations, and treatment techniques to
be applied to a diverse patient population of varying ages. Observation skills, communication skills (both verbal
and written), and an ability to work with patients, families and other providers in a synergistic manner are essential .
The individual should also be willing and able to assume increased responsibilities as required. Demonstrates a
high level of independence and leadership in assigned clinical area. Communication and interpersonal skills must
be at a level to effectively work with a broadly diverse patient population and workforce.
Accountable for providing timely assessment and treatment of patients in a manner that provides an exceptional
patient experience and adheres to applicable state and federal regulations. Accurate and timely documentation in
the EMR is required. Actively supports the mission, goals, strategies, and policies of Yale-New Haven Hospital and
