Summary:
Performs selected patient care duties and may assist other care providers under the direction of an R.N.. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities:
  • 1. Maintains unit environment.
    Understands difference between sterile/aseptic environment and unsterile environment.
    Identifies distinct processes for cleaning of OR Rooms.
  • 1.1 Reports repair needs to appropriate person and follows through to ensure repairs are completed as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff.
  • 1.2 Completes unit specific environmental responsibilities checklist as assigned as evidenced by random supervisory review of completed checklists.
  • 1.3 Ensures linen and supply availability. Responsible for distribution, storage and collection of linen/supplies. Works collaboratively with the Inventory Coord./staff to monitor, maintain, and replenish PAR levels as required as evidenced by feedback from staff. Collects soiled linen following established schedule and as needed as observed by supervisor. Makes up stretchers and O.R. tables.
  • 1.4 Clean OR rooms according to AORN standards, including cleaning in between cases, terminal cleaning and cycle cleaning
  • 1.5 Clean MOR, Pre-op, PACU on a daily basis including, but not limited to, bathrooms, lounges, locker rooms and all hallways.
  • 2. Demonstrates skill in observing and communicating patient needs.
  • 2.1 Assists RN in designated activities 90-95% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 3. Performs other related duties as needed and/or directed.
  • 3.1 Transports patients/supplies as required for patient care following established hospital procedures as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff.
  • 3.2 Transports instruments/specimens as directed as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff.
  • 3.3 Willingly assists other members of the health care team as directed as observed by supervisor.
  • 3.4 Performs clerical duties as appropriate to unit.
  • 3.5 Assists in transferring and positioning patients in MOR, including holding limbs for surgical skin prep while maintaining aseptic technique and holding patient for spinal/epidural insertion.
  • 3.6 Communicate concerns observed or experienced to the appropriate personnel while transferring patients.
  • 4. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in daily performance of role.
  • 4.1 Relocates and rotates to meet patient care needs 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.2 Completes patient related duties in a timely manner 90-95% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.3 Completes assignment in a timely manner 90-95% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.4 Participates in a minimum of 8 unit staff meetings each year as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.5 Assumes responsibility for delegated activities 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.6 Identifies areas in performance needing improvement 90-95% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.7 Sets specific realistic goals for self-improvement 90-95% of the time as reviewed by supervisor.
  • 4.8 Completes mutually agreed upon goals in a designated timeframe 90-95% of the time as reviewed by supervisor.
  • 4.9 Maintains skills applicable to the unit 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.10 Records attendance at educational programs on appropriate form 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.11 Accepts constructive criticism and responds by implementing corrective action 90-95% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 4.12 Takes breaks and lunches as scheduled and reports off to Lead Procedural Assistant or Charge Nurse following established department and Hospital policies and procedures.
  • 4.13 Maintains respectful and professiional working relationship with Lead Procedural Assistant
  • 4.14 Accepts responsibility for ensuring OR rooms are cleaned according to standards daily.
  • 5. Completes non-therapeutic funcitions under the direction of MD, PA, or RN.
  • 5.1 Remove medication(s) from the pneumatic tube system sent from the Pharmacy or Hospital Supply to the unit/patient care area.
  • 5.2 Immediately deliver the medication(s) from the pneumatic tube system to the appropriate Registered Nurse, Physician, Physician Assistant or other appropriate licensed practitioner. Other information: EDUCATION:
    High school diploma or equivalent.
    EXPERIENCE:
    Prefer one year relevant experience
    SPECIAL_SKILLS:
    Good interpersonal skills, Must have command of English language both reading and writing, Successful completion of orientation.
    ACCOUNTABILITY:
    Understanding of aseptic and sterile environment
    PHYSICAL_DEMAND:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; bend and or kneel; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. They are frequently required to reach with hands and arms. They are occasionally required to sit. Required to perform tasks involving heavy lifting, pulling and or pushing up to and possibly exceeding 50 or more pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
