THIS POSITION IS COVERED BY THE TEAMSTERS COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT Minimum - $22.35/hr. Maximum - $39.13/hr.

SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Plant Operations, performs a variety of duties in and around the Hospital complex. Performs repairs to and maintains machinery, systems and mechanical equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 1. Performs hospital coverage duties by maintaining building equipment & systems.
  • 1.1 Maintains building climate by adjusting thermostats, heat, ventilation or air conditioning systems for the comfort of patients, visitors and staff.
  • 1.2 Documents all maintenance actions which require further monitoring or repair.
  • 1.3 Responds to all Engineering/Maintenance Department requests for services in a timely manner.
  • 1.4 Responds to all elevator, nurse-call, TV, alarms, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other facility issues on off-shift schedules.
  • 1.5 Routinely inspects mechanical rooms and records status of various hospital systems and equipment.
  • 1.6 Repairs beds, stretchers and rolling stock from nursing units.
  • 1.7 Demonstrates consistent ability to respond to and to perform all minor and emergency repairs.
  • 1.8 Demonstrates dependability by completing commitments within requested time frames.
  • 1.9 Attends all meetings and equipment in-services as required.
  • 2. Completes and returns all work orders and equipment maintenance records according to departmental guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • 3. Assesses environment for safety hazards which could harm patients, visitors or hospital employees and reports them to appropriate supervisors.
    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:
    High school diploma, or preferably a graduate from a trade/vocational school or completion of other accredited mechanical electrical/electronics or plumbing instructional institution.

    EXPERIENCE:
    A minimum of 3 years serving an apprenticeship under a mechanical/electrical/plumbing or related trade or 5 to 10 years working in a similar institutional or manufacturing type facility/setting.

    LICENSURE:
    Preferrably a P-2, S-2 or D-2 State of Ct license

    SPECIAL SKILLS:
    A very strong working knowledge of HVAC or mechanical or electrical or plumbing or metalworking and/or welding experience.
    ACCOUNTABILITY:
    Incumbent held accountable for timely and accurate achievement of assignments in accordance with established policies and procedures. Must work independently with a minimum of supervision.
    COMPLEXITY:
    Position involves the following of pre-established procedures and policies. Makes major decisions and coordinates work efforts to ensure other trades are not effected by work activity.
    PHYSICAL DEMAND:
    Physical effort of lifting 50#''s, ladder work up to 20 feet, kneeing and exterior work is required. Minor stress due to job requirements, responsibilities and of job shift duties.
