THIS POSITION IS COVERED BY THE TEAMSTERS COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT Minimum - $22.35/hr. Maximum - $39.13/hr. SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Plant Operations, performs a variety of duties in and around the Hospital complex. Performs repairs to and maintains machinery, systems and mechanical equipment.
1. Performs hospital coverage duties by maintaining building equipment & systems. 1.1 Maintains building climate by adjusting thermostats, heat, ventilation or air conditioning systems for the comfort of patients, visitors and staff. 1.2 Documents all maintenance actions which require further monitoring or repair. 1.3 Responds to all Engineering/Maintenance Department requests for services in a timely manner. 1.4 Responds to all elevator, nurse-call, TV, alarms, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other facility issues on off-shift schedules. 1.5 Routinely inspects mechanical rooms and records status of various hospital systems and equipment. 1.6 Repairs beds, stretchers and rolling stock from nursing units. 1.7 Demonstrates consistent ability to respond to and to perform all minor and emergency repairs. 1.8 Demonstrates dependability by completing commitments within requested time frames. 1.9 Attends all meetings and equipment in-services as required. 2. Completes and returns all work orders and equipment maintenance records according to departmental guidelines and regulatory requirements. 3. Assesses environment for safety hazards which could harm patients, visitors or hospital employees and reports them to appropriate supervisors.
High school diploma, or preferably a graduate from a trade/vocational school or completion of other accredited mechanical electrical/electronics or plumbing instructional institution.
A minimum of 3 years serving an apprenticeship under a mechanical/electrical/plumbing or related trade or 5 to 10 years working in a similar institutional or manufacturing type facility/setting.
Preferrably a P-2, S-2 or D-2 State of Ct license
A very strong working knowledge of HVAC or mechanical or electrical or plumbing or metalworking and/or welding experience.
Incumbent held accountable for timely and accurate achievement of assignments in accordance with established policies and procedures. Must work independently with a minimum of supervision.
Position involves the following of pre-established procedures and policies. Makes major decisions and coordinates work efforts to ensure other trades are not effected by work activity.
Physical effort of lifting 50#''s, ladder work up to 20 feet, kneeing and exterior work is required. Minor stress due to job requirements, responsibilities and of job shift duties.
