Summary:
Produces diagnostic radiographs, performs all Special Procedures and functions as scrub tech for cardiology procedures as ordered by a physician following the established policies of the department. Able to provide appropriate care for patients served, regardless of age. Must provide coverage on weekends, holidays and off shifts as deemed necessary to maintain level of department standards.
Responsible for emergency call after hours in all facets of Radiology, Special Procedures and Cardiology in rotation 7/24, 365 days a year.

The medical staff determines the qualifications of the radiology staff that use equipment and procedures.
Responsibilities:
  • 1. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination and assists in examinations under
    the direction of a Radiologist and Cardiologist, following the established policies of the department and State regulations . Understands and practices proper use of all department equipment.
  • 2. Conducts appropriate patient care, and teaching relative to imaging procedure and age of
    patient. Interacts professionally at all times with patient and family members. Assures privacy and
    confidentiality throughout prescribed examination. Obtains patient history and reviews clinical indication for
    exam requested for appropriateness. Informs physician of changes in patient's condition during exam. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • 3. Responsible for safety of patients and staff. Observes safety precautions at all times. Follows all established guidelines of the ARRT. Understands proper use of all equipment, never operating equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's standards. Responsible for pro active response in near-miss reporting. Completes incidents/
    occurrence reports within required time frame. Actively participates in performance improvement
    activities related to patient and staff safety.
  • 3.1. Observes safety precautions at all times. follows all established guidelines of the ARRT and the ARC. Understands proper use of all equipment, never operating equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's standards. Responsible for pro active response in near-miss reporting. Completes incidents/ occurrence reports within required time frame. Actively participates in performance improvement activities related to patient and staff safety.
  • 4. Contributes to the productivity and efficient operation of the department.
    Completes assignments within a reasonable time frame with minimal errors. Reviews next day
    schedule making necessary preparations. Exhibits punctuality and flexibility in daily work schedule.
    Covers on call rotation in a responsible manner. Responding on site within 45 minutes of contact.
    Maintains work area to promote an efficient operation.

  • 7. Performs all diagnostic radiographs and associated image processing.
    Following Physicians' orders and Managers directions taking into consideration Departmental and
    Hospital policies and procedures, identifies the type of examination required to achieve desire results.

Properly assesses the patient utilizing Department policy insuring that patients demographic and clinical data is present and is medically appropriate for the procedure ordered with no more than three (3) errors annually. Completes technical information on request upon completion of procedure.
  • 7.4. Implements patient care. Assures that all markers (name, lead directional, date, etc.) are correct and are prominently displayed on films. Monitored by quarterly analysis. Ninety-five (95%) compliance.
  • 7.5. Following direction, the Technologists will be assigned to an area for a designated period and will be responsible for all examinations performed in a quality manner.
  • 8. Verifies patients in a timely efficient manner; identity verbally and by checking patients wristbands.
    Patient and/or family learning needs are identified and addressed. Measured by complaints or
    compliments. Less than (2) complaints are satisfactory.
  • 8.1. Cleans and changes linen on examining table after each patient, or before each patient, also including all patient dressing areas.
  • 8.2. The employee uses universal precautions as outlined in the departmental Infection Control manual.
  • 8.3. Stocks room according to check sheets on a daily bases.
  • 8.4. Assures patient is prepared for exam to Radiologists specifications (proper clothing and jewelry removed and has followed written Doctor's protocol).
  • 8.5. Coordinates Films with corresponding paperwork (folders, prior reports and sent to Synapse).
  • 8.6. Daily cleansing of x-ray tables and surrounding equipment.
  • 9. Properly addresses the patient utilizing Department policy insuring that patients demographic and
    clinical data is present and is medically appropriate for the procedure ordered with no more than three
    (3) errors annually. Completes technical information on request upon completion of procedure.

    Cleans and changes linen on examining table after each patient, or before each patient, also including
    all patient dressing areas.

    The employee uses universal precautions as outlined in the departmental Infection Control manual.

    Assures rooms are properly stocked and prepared for examinations.
    Assures patient is prepared for exam to Radiologists specifications (patient prepped, draped, sterile tables prepared, proper clothing and jewelry removed and has followed written Doctor's protocol).

    Coordinates images with corresponding paperwork (folders, prior reports and sent to Synapse).

    Daily cleaning of x-ray tables and surrounding equipment.
  • 11. Fully facile with Cardiology equipment such as the IVUS (intravascular ultrasound), Balloon pump (set up and operation), Manifold, Defibrillator and IAPB set up.

    EDUCATION:

    Graduation from an approved program in Radiological Technology; is ARRT Registered and has a current Connecticut License.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Three (3) years experience in Diagnostic Radiology. Experience with Interventional Radiology Procedures and/or Cardiology scrub preferred.

    LICENSURE:

    ARRT registered and CT radiography licensure, BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

    SPECIAL_SKILLS:

    Has basic knowledge of ECG interpretation.

    May be exposed to infectious diseases, or hazardous material. Average to clinical settings.
    Standing and walking most of the day. Working with lightweight equipment with occasional lifting pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Must have the ability to hear and observe all the surroundings of the department and have manual dexterity. Assisting in lifting of patient with physical problems.
