The Assistant Mgr. Smilow APP will collaborate and assist the Sr. Program Mgr. Oncology APP in providing administrative oversight and support for all Oncology APPs in the service line throughout the state of CT, including those in the inpatient, outpatient and network centers. In addition, he/she provides support (communication, professional development) to APPs who work in Smilow, but organizationally report elsewhere (such as a university department). (Approximate span of control =50 FTE).
Considered as an expert on APP practice, the Assistant Mgr. Smilow APP will assist the Sr. Program Mgr. Oncology APP, physician leaders and others to help establish APP driven practice in all Smilow settings.
The Assistant Mgr. Smilow APP will assist and support the Senior Program Manager, APP to ensure that the APP practice is consistent with EBP and regulatory requirements; assist in overseeing performance evaluations and practice reviews; assist in ensuring the application of the peer review process.
He/she will participate in Leadership and Quality councils and provide consistent information to the APP constituent group. He/she will also provide clinical support to a clinical disease team.
Responsibilities: 1. Collaborate and assist in providing general administrative support to the Oncology APP group. 1.1. Assists in conducting regular meetings with all APPs working in Smilow Cancer Hospital 1.2. Along with the Sr. Program Mgr. Oncology APP, acts as liaison from APP staff and physicians/faculty 1.3. Acts as conduit of information to APP to/ from Smilow and YCC administration 1.4. Presents self as a professional role model 1.5. Helps maintain employee files with documentation of licensure, practice agreements and DEA, etc. 1.6. In the absence of / or with the approval of the Sr. Program Mgr. Oncology APP, approves and coordinates time off and ensures cross coverage in all clinical areas 1.7. Participates in interviews of prospective new faculty to determine APP resource needs; provides input to YCC administration and SCH Finance on Business plan development related to resources and productivity measures of APPs. 1.8. Regularly visits Smilow Care Centers to ascertain use of APPs in those settings and to confer with APPs, staff and physicians about practice issues. 2. Overseeing the APP Clinical Practice 2.1. Collaborate with APPs on annual goal development 2.2. Helps mentor APPs in goal implementation and evaluation 2.3. Assists in conducting performance reviews with input from collaborating physicians and other members of the team, ensuring compliance to YNHH policies and adherence to scope of professional practice. 2.4. Assist with oversight in peer review as part of credentialing and performance management consistent with YNHH peer review program. 2.5. Reviews and approves APP credentialing and reappointment packages ensuring appropriate scope of practice and collaborative practice agreements. 3. Professional development for APPs in Oncology 3.1. Assists in conducting regular needs assessment in partnership with Oncology Nursing Education 3.2. Helps create learning experiences to meet the needs of the APP community. 3.3. Assists in the development teaching role component of APP related to Oncology Nursing staff. 3.4. Assists to establish and monitor the process and outcomes using a quality improvement model. 3.5. Helps promote the scholarship and leadership role of the APP through publications, presentations and Evidence based practice and advancement in Oncology Leader. 4. Recruitment and orientation of newly hired APP 4.1. Assists to coordinate the posting, hiring and recruitment process for new APP positions 4.2. Ensures expedited recruitment of new APPs with collaborating physician input. 4.3. Ensures new APPs complete all requisite orientation. 4.4. Monitors performance during the 90 probationary periods; complete FPPE and OPPE as required 5. Provide direct clinical support to assigned Multidisciplinary Disease team 5.1. Maintains clinical competences and practice with assigned disease team.
Master's degree or DNP required. Oncology experience preferred. Graduation from approved Advanced Practice Provider (PA or APRN) program. Certified as a Physician Assistant or APRN by the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Minimum of three years of clinical experience. Minimum of 1 year leadership experience. Oncology RN or APP experience is required.
APRN or PA Licensure in the State of CT
