The role of the Ambulatory Surgery Associate involves multi-skilled tasks, tying Materials Management to Surgical Support functions that are critical to patient care. Areas of support include: Temple & Shoreline Endoscopy, Womens, Temple & Shoreline Surgical Centers, and other YNHH-ASD areas, as required. Duties include, but are not limited to, set-up and turn-over of surgical rooms, re-stocking supplies, picking supplies needed for cases from inventory, the movement and transfer of YNHH ASD patients, and the transport of Stat Lab specimens to the YNHH campus for Pathological determination and diagnosis. The position requires that the individual also performs infection controls tasks, such as cleaning and disinfecting of surgical rooms, handling and properly disposing of bio-waste, sharps and trash. The multiple duties require the Ambulatory Surgery Associate I to support and float between any of the areas of responsibility described below. The Ambulatory Surgery Associate I is an integral member of the Surgical Team. Responsibilities: 1. Perform preventative maintenance and equipment storage duties, which contribute to safe, effective, and efficient patient care delivery. 1.1. Performs preventive maintenance on surgical equipment, i.e. laparoscopic equipment, gas tanks, bean bags, positioning equipment and tables. 1.2. Maintains inventory of gas cylinders and follows proper notification procedure if inadequate supply, maintains daily log of piped in gas. 1.3. During emergencies, supports the nursing staff, and maintains knowledge of emergency carts and role in emergency. 1.4. Keeps equipment and parts stored in the proper equipment storage area clean, organized and in proper working order. 2. Assists nursing team by providing patient care. 2.1. Transport of specimens to YNHH Lab. Knowledge of proper transport requirements and logging/tracking methods. 2.2. Ensures a safe environment, with special consideration in the use of oxygen, side rails, restraints, and electrical equipment. Helps restrain patients as necessary. 2.3. Assists with lifting, transferring, turning, and positioning patients 2.4. Monitor medication and specimens in refrigerator and fluid warmer for proper temperature control. 2.5. Monitor expiration dates of fluids in warmer. 2.6. Monitor refrigerators hourly to ensure all specimens are being handled/stored properly. Clean refrigerators weekly observing proper infection control procedure 3. Performs responsibilities which contribute to the efficient operation of the Operating Rooms. Initiates actions to correct inadequate supplies, faulty equipment, and environment problems and informs Nurse, and Supervisor/Manager. 3.1. Clean and disinfect surgical rooms pre and post surgery, including all in-room equipment, tables, drawers, etc. using appropriate infection control methods. 3.2. Setup and removal of equipment and positioning devices as required in surgical rooms. Clean and disinfect after usage and transport back to proper storage area. 3.3. Bio-Waste removal through fluid suction, sharps disposal, and boxing of material. 3.4. Maintains inventory of bio-hazard containers & sharps containers. 4. Performs duties related to unit supply inventory. 4.1. Check and placement of unit supplies to par-level each morning for designated areas, and replenish at end of each day. 4.2. Preparation of janitor closets, general storage areas. 4.3. Removal of all waste and soiled linens from storage areas on daily and timely basis. 4.4. Trash removal to loading dock. Tidy up of rooms and lounge areas. Inventory and fill of assigned supply carts and closets. Pick of material in stores and delivery to
requesting department. 4.5. Performs supply expiration sweeps in the OR suites, carts, and supply room. 5. Maintains competency in areas of responsibility and participates in unit activities that promote a cohesive team environment. 5.1. Complete on-line mandatory continuing education classes as required. 5.2. Ensure annual PPD is completed. 5.3. Attends and actively participates in staff meetings. 5.4. Supports an environment that values learning. 6. Participates as a team member and contributes to the cohesiveness of the department to maintain a positive working environment. 6.1. Utilizes computers as related to job. 6.2. Performs other related duties as necessary. 6.3. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) knowledge (i.e. when and where to don PPE, proper procedure for donning & removing, hand hygiene, ensures PPE available for all staff, assist clinicians with donning & disrobing of PPE).
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 1-2 years of related experience required. Experience in customer /patient service, patient care and/or hospital or physician office experience strongly preferred .
High degree of communication skills with all levels of staff (clinical and non-clinical staff). Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding healthcare environment. Must be able to function both independently and as a team player. Strong prioritization skills and ability to multi-task. Beginner level computer skills, familiarity with Windows based environment. CPR certified preferred. Position requires minimum full -time commitment of 6-months for orientation purposes.
Accountable for following all departmental and Hospital policies & procedures. Completes assigned duties in a timely and accurate manner.

Physical ability to work on feet for prolonged periods of time. Capability of lifting, pushing, pulling heavy equipment and transferring/lifting of patients and materials. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
