Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager (NM) and the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), performs specific duties that support patient care. These duties include direct and indirect patient care activities which are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients. Responsibilities: 1. Under the direction of the RN, engages in selected tasks and activities as directed to obtain and report information to assist the nurse in the assessment, planning and evaluation of patient needs, treatment and reports deviations as identified to RN. 1.1 Obtains and records vital signs as ordered and or delegated by the RN 1.2 Identifies pain assessment needs with each vital signs and as needed and communicates as appropriate to RN 1.3 Obtains point of care testing as ordered and or delegated by the RN: blood glucose, hemoccult multistix, and urine HCG as appropriate for patient care unit. 1.4 Performs intentional hourly rounding and documents per unit requirements. 1.5 Measures, records and documents intake and output accurately. 1.6 States normal parameters of treatments/procedures carried out in the role. Reports to the nurse any observations, patient behaviors and other indicators which fall outside the stated normal parameters or directions given by RN. 1.7 Enters/retrieves information accurately and in a timely manner into electronic medical record (EMR). 2. Under the direction of the RN, performs technical duties and selected treatments, procedures and activities which contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care. 2.1 Appropriately assures patients are accurately identified (i.e. doors, ID bands, barcode scanning for lab draws etc.) following establish policies and procedures 2.2 Appropriately obtains specimens and performs tests assuring proper and timely transport following established policies and procedures (i.e. 12-lead ECGs and blood draws) after successfully completing training. 2.3 Applies and removes/ troubleshoots telemetry leads as delegated by the RN where appropriate 2.4 Assists in care of patient requiring IV therapy 2.5 Assists patients or performs activates of daily living such as: personal/oral hygiene, safe feeding, toileting and Elimination and ambulation as appropriate or as delegated by the RN. 2.6 Performs perineal care in patients with indwelling foley catheters daily and as appropriate per patient needs. Documents appropriately on flowsheet in EMR. 2.7 Performs and/or describes post mortem care 2.8 Employs proper lifting techniques and use of safe patient handling equipment 2.9 Demonstrates knowledge of patient safety and fall prevention strategies. Compliance with fall protocol 2.10 Observes and reports abnormal skin conditions following established policy and procedures. Assists in the care of patients at risk or with actual skin breakdown 2.11 Practices appropriate infection control procedures (ie. proper hand hygiene, gowning and gloving, isolation techniques). 2.12 Assists in the care of patients with restraints. Documents according to guidelines per policy 2.13 Safely performs oral suctioning if applicable 2.14 Carries out Tech responsibilities related to patient emergencies. 2.15 Accompanies patients to other areas of the hospital when patient appropriate and as requested by the RN. 3. Effectively assists in the care of patients with consideration for the safety of key populations as appropriate. 3.1 Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team offering suggestions on addressing patient/family needs, taking into account cultural and/or individual diversity and demonstrates sensitivity to these aspects of care delivery. 3.2 Collaborates with nurse to assist in the development and ongoing evaluation of the patient''s plan of care and development of discharge plan 4. Effectively and professionally communicates and interacts with patients, families, and staff. Covers the Business Associate (BA) desk in the absence of the BA under the direction of the NM or designee. 4.1 Participates in receiving patient bedside report at the beginning of each shift and throughout the shift as needed 4.2 Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize patient care in a timely manner 4.3 Identifies need to reorder supplies and coordinates with BA or designee following establish policies and procedure. Reports inadequate supplies, faulty equipment, and environmental problems to appropriate personnel. 4.4 Handles and documents in the EMR all patient valuables and clothing as per hospital/unit policy. 4.5 Helps to keep all clinical areas, patient room, nursing work areas neat and clean and assuring the environment is always joint commission and regulatory compliant. 4.6 Reinforces appropriate patient education as indicated by feedback from patient within scope of practice 5. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in daily performance of role 5.1 Relocates and rotates to meet patient care needs 5.2 Completes patient care and direct assignment in a timely manner 5.3 Attends and participates in daily unit huddles and/or unit staff meetings 5.4 Assumes responsibility for delegated activities 5.5 Maintains credentialing needs and skills necessary to work in technician role on their unit 5.6 Participates in and records attendance from educational programs 5.7 Accepts constructive feedback from supervising RN or Supervisor and responds with appropriate actions. 5.8 Completes mutually agreed upon goals in s designated timeframe 6. Completes non-therapeutic functions under the direction of MD, PA, APRN or RN. Remove medication(s) from the pneumatic tube system sent from the Pharmacy or Hospital Supply to the unit/patient care area. 6.1 Immediately deliver the medication(s) from the pneumatic tube system to the appropriate Registered Nurse, Physician, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant or other appropriate licensed practitioner. 6.2 As directed by a Registered Nurse, Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or other appropriate licensed practitioner, remove IV solutions from the patient care area''s clean utility room and immediately deliver to the appropriate licensed practitioner. 6.3 As directed by a Registered Nurse, Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant or other appropriate licensed practitioner, stock IV solutions in the patient care area''s clean utility room.
High school diploma or GED; and CNA or other educational equivalent, i.e. Medical Assistant, CPCT, EMT, a student nurse from an accredited program or LPN.
2 years of CNA experience preferred.
CT CNA certification, EMT, a student nurse from an accredited program or an LPN. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) training must be obtained prior to employment or within one (1) month of hire. PCT must maintain BLS at all times during employment. If any training expires, the PCT will be suspended until it is obtained and documented.
Successful completion of orientation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. They are also required to stand and walk. They must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
