Summary:

Co-terminus with funding

The Child Life Gaming Specialist is a member of the Yale New Haven Children 's Hospital Child Life team and is responsible for building out/integrating/customizing Zott to hospital, increasing traffic to Zott with live -streams, calendar of events, hospital videos, hosting gaming events, assist patients /families with navigation of system, providing overall gaming strategy, training and technical support, Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, PC, etc. Assists with assessing, installing, documenting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and supporting gaming systems, peripherals, and related hardware within the context of the Child Life Dept.

Responsibilities:
  • 1. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, updates and repairs gaming systems and related peripheral equipment.
  • 2. Maintains updated knowledge on all applicable gaming systems and performs new system configurations
  • 3. Assists with maintaining video links/educational sites, distribution and content.
  • 4. Disseminates technical knowledge, including formal training across the Child Life team and related departments.
  • 5. Works closely with patients and families to teach and utilize appropriately-assigned gaming technologies
  • 6. Collaborates with team members on research related to gaming system implementation and outcomes with relation to patient care.
  • 7. Coordinates with clinicians across various departments to setup care plans and flow in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • 8. Build and maintain partnerships with organizations who wish to support and develop technology and technology based programming.
  • 9. Keep the Child Life Department informed and up-to-date on the latest technology that could be utilized for stress and pain management, alternative focus, socialization and education.
  • 10. Train and familiarize all staff and child life interns on the use of new technologies.

    EDUCATION:

    High School diploma (with highly developed relevant skills gained through life experience ), Associates degree; preferred Bachelor/Master's degree in a related field

    EXPERIENCE:

    Strong gaming experience required, lifelong gamer preferred, well versed in VR and AR technologies ; participated/attended gaming conferences, has at least 1 year experience working With children either in a classroom setting or hospital setting or can demonstrate the ability to appropriately interact with /work with children of all ages.

    LICENSURE:

    Certificate in Gaming Development, Licensed as Computer Support Technician

    SPECIAL_SKILLS:

    - Builds relationships and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders (Child's Play, Game Changer, YNHH IT Department, etc.) to develop resources for and conduct program pilots with patients and families.
    ACCOUNTABILITY:

    - Keep the Child Life Department informed and up-to-date on the latest technology that could be utilized for reduction of stress and pain management, alternative focus, socialization and education.
    - Build relationships with like-minded organizations and individuals {Child?s Play, Game Changer, etc.) and partner with them to develop resources for and conduct pilots with appropriate patients and families.
    - Train and familiarize all staff and child life interns on the use of new technologies .
    - Provide technological support of innovative technologies including hardware and software maintenance and staff support.
    COMPLEXITY:

    In conjunction with child life specialists, regularly exercises judgment and discretion in developing programs to support the development and psychosocial needs of children in a health care setting. Must possess critical thinking skills, strong oral and written communication skills, exhibits effective facilitation skills, manages time and resources effectively.
