Assists teachers with their daily programs and assists with the care of young children. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities: 1. Helps the Teacher care for the physical and social emotional needs of the children. 1.1. Helps assist in preparing and serving nutritious snacks/meals, consistently following snack & Mealtime/Infant feeding policies. 1.2. Helps assist in the diapering and toileting of the children, following department policies for diapering/bathroom use and toilet training procedures everytime. 1.3. Attends to children's injuries giving appropriate first aid and TLC, notifying the necessary individuals, as well as filling out an injury/incident/illness report clearly and concisely for each occurence. 1.4. Listens to and talks to children in a respectful manner, interacting in a way to offer affection, comfort, encouragement, praise, reassurance and empathy. 1.5. Helps children express their feelings and communicate their needs, while encouraging and fostering each child's independence 1.6. Follows center discipline policies consistently and in a developmentally appropriate manner, seeking to prevent problems by supervising children's play, using positive guidance and redirection when needed. 1.7. Recognizes, respects, and meets each child's individual needs as much as possible, finding time for one-to-one interactions with children daily. 1.8. Helps the staff prepare for nap, playtime, activity-time, and snack/mealtime as the room schedule indicates, or when otherwise directed to by the teacher. 2. Assists the Teacher in maintaining a safe, neat, attractive and healthy environment for the children. 2.1. Ensures physical safety of the children by complying with the center's health and safety policies including fire drill procedures, and meeting all first aid/CPR requirements. 2.2. Assists in the daily cleaning and sanitizing of toys and equipment, reporting or disgarding of faulty or broken toys/equipment, as well as maintaining an orderly environment for children to play and learn in. 2.3. Assists in keeping classroom clean, organized and well stocked with supplies. 2.4. Consistently keeps a watchful eye and open ear on the children, having awareness for all of the children in the group. 2.5. Has awareness of the schedule and routine in each classroom and can assume the substitute role in any room with minimal direction needed. 3. Communicates effectively with parents and fellow staff members. 3.1. Demonstrates a warm, caring and welcoming attitude toward the children, parents and fellow staff members at all times. 3.2. Accurately documents on the children's daily charts. 3.3. Maintains strict confidence of information without exception, and conveys messages from the parents to the supervisor . 3.4. Demonstrates flexibility with assignments and duties, willingly helps in other rooms/groups when necessary and according to our ratio needs - looks for opportunities to help elsewhere during down times. 4. Continues to keep current in the field of Early Childhood Education. 4.1. Reads at least 2 articles a month on Early Childhood Education as documaented in their developmental log. 4.2. Attends staff meeting, workshops and inservice training provided by the center.
High School Diploma not required but preferred
1-2 years related experience preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. They are required to reach with hands and arms. They must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
