Maintaining current knowledge and skills to performance analyses of blood providing the physician with information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Self-directed and able to work independently in the absence of a manager. To obtain blood samples from patients by venipuncture or skin puncture observing proper phlebotomy technique and patient identification policies. Operation and troubleshooting of analyzers instrumental in daily laboratory operations. Reporting and communicating results to physicians and/or medical staff including documentation of critical values as per policy. Demonstrates service excellence in all patient care activities. Promotes teamwork and quality patient care in all interactions with co -workers, physician offices and other departments. Maintain a minimum of 12 CE per year.
1. Technical Skills - Demonstrates technical competency by performing a wide variety of techniques related to chemistry and hematology testing. 1.1. Assesses the specimen according to established procedural criteria, documents specimen problems, rejects inappropriate samples and requests new specimen(s) when appropriate. 1.2. Operation and troubleshooting of the analyzers used in daily laboratory operations 1.3. Maintain a minimum of 12 CE per year 2. Instrumentation Skills - Demonstrates sufficient knowledge and skills to independently operate chemistry and hematology instrumentation and point-of-care devices. 2.1. Performs instrument maintenance according to schedule including documentation, within established time limits. 3. General laboratory skills and knowledge - Performs tasks that assist with overall operations of the laboratory according to laboratory policies and in compliance with regulatory guidelines. 3.1. Takes responsibility for all reagents and supplies associated with assigned tests to ensure adequate materials are available for testing. 3.2. Awareness of factors that influence test results and the skill required to assess and verify the validity of those results. 4. Professional Skills - Demonstrates a professional attitude and approach to all areas of work, attempts to work well with others and demonstrates a commitment to personal career growth and competency. 4.1. Employee is ready to work at the start of the assigned shift and adheres to hospital policy by returning from breaks/lunches within established times. 4.2. Provides physician with information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. 4.3. Reporting and communicating results to physicians, medical staff and offices including documentation of critical values as per policy 5. Phlebotomy skills - Maintain the knowledge and skills to perform phlebotomy 5.1. Promotes an environment of service excellence in work area and demonstrate compassion with patients. 5.2. 4 Year Bachelor Degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry or environmental sciences. Phlebotomy skills required. BS or equivalent preferred. Ability to work in a laboratory setting operating lab analyzers
Preferred a minimum of two years working in the clinical laboratory environment. Phlebotomy skills required.
