A professional registered nurse responsible and accountable for providing nursing care to patients and their families by utilizing the nursing process, and in accordance with standards identified by The American Nurse?s Association, and The Association of Critical Care Nursing. The registered nurse is expected to provide primary nursing care for patients and assume responsibility for nursing process by assessment, plan of care, intervention, and evaluation.
Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Competence in Patient Care
1.1. Complies with patient safety standards
1.2. Safely administers medications following established policy + procedure
1.3. Performs and documents a comprehensive assessment of patient needs incorporating physical, cultural, and spiritual domains
1.4. Provides individualized, goal directed care to patients with consideration of the aging process of populations served
1.5. Collaborates with other members of the patient care team to evaluate patient outcomes and determine alternatives as needed
1.6. Has knowledge and ability to utilize all computer applications required
1.7. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in equipment required during Cath Lab procedures
1.8. Assesses patients continually during procedures and recognizes and responds appropriately to changes in patient status
1.9. Protects patients and themselves by following guidelines for infection control and protective equipment
1.10. Demonstrates knowledge + ability to clean + disinfect equipment
1.11. Appropriately sets up Cath Lab for procedures using aseptic technique
1.12. Properly demonstrates the ability to care for the patient undergoing cardiac catheterization including insertion, monitoring, interpretation, and care of the catheter
1.13. Demonstrates the ability to care for the patient with continuous cardiac monitoring including rhythm identification, interpretation, and follow through with appropriate intervention
1.14. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the technical aspects of the lab; e.g., proper maintenance of equipment, interpretation of data, cine processing, etc.
1.15. Assists the physician performing the cardiac catheterization
1.16. Provides education to patients/families regarding procedures including preparation + after care
2. Safety administers medications and IV therapies
2.1. Adheres to the 5 R?s of medication administrations and has knowledge of medications administered
2.2. Follows correct procedure for administration/documentation and waste of controlled substances
2.3. Assesses and documents patients response to administered medications
2.4. Identifies and appropriately responds to adverse reactions
2.5. Demonstrates skill in accessing + maintaining peripheral IV?s, PICC lines and implantable ports

3.1. Demonstrates evidence of professional growth by education thru attendance at seminars and in-services related to field of practice, and on hospital and unit committees
3.2. Researches unfamiliar procedures, diagnosis, medications, and shares findings
3.3. Acts as a resource to staff, patients and their families/significant others. Orients new employees
3.4. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to safety of the organization and specific job related hazards.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
2-3 years med surg experience. Previous experience in Cath Lab/Critical Care required.
Current RI license/registration BLS Currents certification ACLS certification
