Under the supervision of the Imaging Services Administrative Manager, performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex imaging equipment to produce quality MRI images as requested for subsequent interpretation by the radiologist. All duties are performed according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Promotes service excellence in all interactions as outlined in the Key Behaviors in the Bridgeport Hospital Core Success Factors.
Responsibilities: 1. Performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex MRI scanner equipment. 1.1 Follows routine protocols when imaging and refers to the doctor''s exam requisition to ensure the correct exam is performed. 1.2 Efficiently performs and completes each exam in the appropriate time frame. 1.3 Demonstrates minimal inactive scan time which is reflected in the yearly technical competency review. 1.4 Demonstrates MRI image quality, post processing series and transmittal to archiving system.. 1.5 Is capable of building scan protocols utilizing the correct options with the correct pulse sequences. 1.6 Efficiently follows routine protocols, demonstrates independent judgment, and has minimal inactive scanner utilization 2. Performs quality and compassionate patient care in order to ensure cooperation, safety, and satisfaction. 2.1 Thoroughly explains the procedure to the patient to offer them the emotional support to endure and complete the exam. 2.2 Accurately reviews all patient information physician orders, safety screening forms, lab values stc. prior to scanning. 2.3 Accurately identifies the patient by name and medical record number prior to start of the procedure. 2.4 Actively participates in sectional, departmental, and hospital-wide initiatives to promote Service Excellence. 3. Accurately documents all pertinent patient information including contrast amounts administered, contrast waste, patient lab values and safety issues. 3.1 Accurately completes/edits charges for exams. 3.2 Utilizes safety screening sheets on every patient as noted by manager and/or radiologist feedback 3.3 Reviews every inpatient and outpatient chart for clinical history and lab results prior to the MRI scan. 4. Participates in various teaching and learning opportunities in order to further his/her personal knowledge and professional growth. 4.1 Keeps current with new imaging protocols and new advanced techniques introduced in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. 4.2 Instructs and demonstrates procedures and proper use of equipment to new staff as noted by the manager. 4.3 Willingly accept additional assignments and responsibilites as required and observed by manager. 4.4 Actively functions as a mentor to new employees by participating in the orientation process. 5. Demonstrate accuracy for safely screening for patients and hospital staff. 5.1 Review and verify that the patient safety screener information is accurate to ensure safety prior to the MRI Scan. 5.2 Verify that the patient screener is signed by the patient prior to having the MRI Scan. 5.3 Interview all patients and hospital staff verbally in addition to the written and signed patient screener. 5.4 Safescan all patients and hospital staff prior to entering the MRI scanning. 6. Plans and and/or implements care for assigned patients. 6.1 Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from adolescence to old age and applies developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the adult pateint as observed by the manager and as indicated by the staff. 6.2 Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from toddler to adolescent and applies developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the child pateint as observed by the manager and as indicated by the staff. 6.3 Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from infant to toddler and applies developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the child pateint as observed by the manager and as indicated by the staff. 7. Demonstrate the ablity to effectively communicate pertinent information. 7.1 Communicates effectively with patients throughout the exam to ensure cooperation for a quality exam as observed by manager. 7.2 Explains exam to every patient in a professional amnner as observed by manager. 7.3 Ability to communicate pertinent patient information and procedeure and/or polices updates to fellow staff members at change of shifts. 7.4 Demonstrate the ability to communicate equipment malfunctions to the manager and the next shift..(Ex: coils not working, arrival of replacement parts, hardware down and approximate arrival time of engineer) 7.5 Communicates all feedback to the manager in order to ensure goals of the department are met and operations run efficiently. 8. Consults with the radiologist in charge for required exam prior to patient scanning. 8.1 Consults with the radiologist prior to patient exam for non-protocol exams as observed by the radiologist feedback. 8.2 Provide radiologist with all pertinent information neccessary to ensure proper protocol is followed as observed by the radiologist. 8.3 Carries out radiologist directives independenly as noted by the radiologist and observed by the manager. 9. Graduation from an A.M.A. approved Radiologic Technology program.
Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
RT(R) required, (MR) perferred. CT State License Required.
Proficient in routine MRI imaging techniques, knowledge of cross section anatomy, computer applications, and good organizational and communication/customer service skills.
Performance and competency will be assessed continually and reviewed annually by the manager. Any areas that are determined to be unsatisfactory will require additional training and re-evaluation within 90 days.
Demonstrates planning and decision making skills necessary to manage a patient schedule with minimal assistance and utilize MRI scanners efficiently. Active participant in clinical research and teaching and training of new technical staff.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds to assist with patient transfers.
