Fellow - Hospitalist Program - Bridgeport Hospital
The Fellow-Hospitalist Program will rotate through the various clinical and leadership functions at Bridgeport Hospital as well as educational forums within Yale New Haven Health. Additionally, the fellow will lead a multidisciplinary
clinical redesign/research/quality improvement project within a matrix environment.
This one-year Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport Connecticut is designed to:
- Develop and train a physician leader in Hospital Medicine
- Promote research competency in clinical redesign projects
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Gain experience in hospital administration functions such as operational and financial aspects
- Support Bridgeport Hospital's Mission, Vision, and Values
1. Meeting Support
1.1 Develop the agenda, provide written summary and coordinate presentations for key executive meetings,
including but not limited to Senior Operations Group, Senior Vice Presidents, Department Heads and
Quarterly Management meetings.
2. Project Work
2 .1 Actively participates in special projects/task forces; demonstrates ability to lead and motivate work
2. 2 Lead multidisciplinary clinical redesign/research/quality improvement project within a matrix
2.3 Work collaboratively to promote research competency in clinical redesign projects
2.4 Responsible for advancing initiatives of each project
2.5 Serves as the internal consultant and leader of projects/initiatives
3. Develop Broad Range of Healthcare Management Skills
3.1 Develop understanding of Hospital Administrative functions to include operational , clinical, financial, and
3 .2 Understands the healthcare industry and market dynamics, trends, regulations, and managed
healthcare environment in an effort to understand and enhance hospital operations
4. Participate in shadowing experiences to develop understanding of hospital operations.
4.1 Rotate through the various clinical and leadership functions as well as educational forums within the
5. Participate in project management and support as directed by the COO and designated SVPs.
5.1 Areas of focus have include operational effectiveness , service excellence, performance improvement ,
regulatory readiness, ambulatory services, employee engagement and business development.
5.2 Assists with the development of cross functional teams that support Bridgeport hospital's strategic plan,
fosters/supports innovation, and organizes external partnerships
5.3 Evaluates and manages partnerships and strategic efforts at Bridgeport Hospital and across the Yale
New Haven Health System
5.4 Develops, measures, and monitors benchmark performance for clinical, operational, and financial
initiatives/projects; recommends changes in process, policy, and procedures to ensure the operational
effectiveness and financial viability of each initiative
EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties):
Applicants must be a graduate of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or
Medicine-Pediatrics and be Board-Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
EXPERIENCE (number of years and type required to meet an acceptable level of performance):
New or recent graduate from residency program or experienced clinician with interest in Hospital Medicine.
