Greenwich Hospital is a 206-bed regional medical center hospital, serving Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York. It is a major academic affiliate with Yale New School of Medicine and a member of the Yale New Haven Health System.
In accordance with the rules and regulations of Yale New Haven Health, and under the appropriate physician supervision as defined by Connecticut law, the Physician Assistant (PA) will be responsible for managing all aspects of in-patient care in a multi-specialty surgical unit. The PA will primarily be responsible for preoperative assessments, first-assisting in the operating room, and postoperative patient care and discharge planning. Within physician-PA relationship, the PA will be involved in medical decision making for a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. This position may include responsibilities involved with education, research, and administrative services.
An ideal candidate will be effective in demonstrating hand-eye coordination, full range of motion, and manual dexterity; collaborating with physicians and other health care teams; demonstrate knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine; and make responsible clinical decisions within the scope of their practice.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct histories and comprehensive physical exams to evaluate patients for surgery. Order and interpret tests, implement treatment plans, perform patient education, prepare discharge plans, prescribe medication. Performs daily rounds on surgical inpatients and provide continuity in care.
- Comprehensive and clear documentation of patient progress in electronic medical record.
- Perform bedside procedures.
- Consult medicine or other specialties as needed. First-assist in the OR: Specialties including but not limited to General, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Colorectal, Gynecologic, Thoracic, Breast, Plastics, ENT, Urology, and Vascular. Performs surgical consults on patients in the ER as well as medicine units. Communicate and coordinate with nurses, social workers, residents, and other management teams to address patient concerns.
Requirements (Education, Training, Licensure):
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Training Program Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification Current Connecticut State License for practice as a PA Current State and Federal Controlled Substance Registration Proficiency in procedures, techniques, and skills listed in the delineation of privileges Surgical experience of at least 1-3 years preferred. Experience in robotic surgery is a plus. Surgically-inclined and highly motivated new graduates will be considered. One year post graduate surgical residency preferred.
