Summary:
A member of the patient care team, who, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurses assists in the provision of physical and emotional care to patients in accordance with hospital policy. Assists the physician and RN during endoscopic procedures, and has the responsibility of cleaning and sterilization of endoscopic equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • 1. Clinical Competence
  • 1.1. Sets up and turns over procedure rooms keeping up with schedule
  • 1.2. Assists the RN in patient positioning during procedure
  • 1.3. Demonstrates ability to set up, maintain and operate ALL equipment used
  • 1.4. Inspects all equipment prior to use and reports any malfunctions immediately. Takes equipment out of service
  • 1.5. Accurately collects and labels specimens
  • 1.6. Follows Dept. policies for cleaning and disinfection of all equipment used
  • 1.7. Provides nursing care within the CNA scope of practice to patients in Endoscopy and Ambulatory Care.
  • 1.8. Anticipates needs of the RN/MD during Endoscopic procedures + responds appropriately
  • 1.9. Demonstrates use of clean/ aseptic technique
  • 1.10. Protects patients and themselves by following guidelines for infection control + protective equipment
  • 1.11. Assists with bronchoscopies on a rotating basis during off hours.
  • 2. Professional Behavior and Growth
  • 2.1. Demonstrates evidence of professional growth by education thru attendance at seminars and in-services related to field of practice, and on hospital and unit committees.
  • 2.2. Researches un familiar procedures, diagnosis, medications, and shares findings
  • 2.3. Acts as a resource to staff, patients and their families/significant others. Orients new employees
  • 2.4. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to safety of the organization and specific job related hazards.

  • 4.1. Participates in performance improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for improvement, looking at best practices.
  • 4.2. Recommends nursing strategies based on evidence based on practices to the director.
  • 4.3. Collaborates with other members of the patient care team to evaluate patient outcomes and determine alternatives for care.
  • 4.4. Takes call to support new RN during orientation process to provide coverage during first call weekend and also first call shift during week.
  • 5. Appropriately Utilizes Resources
  • 5.1. Reports to work on time, prepared to work and follow hospital policies for notice of lateness/absenteeism and time off requests.
  • 5.2. Prioritizes responsibilities appropriately and complete tasks within assigned time frames. Readily accepts assignments.
  • 5.3. Uses and respects resources as if it were their own. Exercises good judgment in supply usage.
  • 5.4. Take initiative to use down time productively.
  • 5.5. Takes initiative to keep informed and updated on department and hospital information by attending staff meetings, checking e-mails, and department postings.
  • 6. Supports Activities for Exceptional Customer Service
  • 6.1. Demonstrates a high level of respect, dignity compassion and professionalism for all customers by utilizing the four tenets (Dignity + Respect, Information Sharing, Participation, Collaboration)
  • 6.2. Responds to customer?s issues/requests in a clear, concise, and timely manner utilizing active listening skills and validating information.
  • 6.3. Promotes positive intradepartmental and interdepartmental relationships.
  • 6.4. Maintains confidentiality with respect to patient, co-worker and hospital information by disclosing information only on a ?need to know basis? and discussing information in appropriate areas. Follows HIPPA guidelines in all communications regarding patients/

    EXPERIENCE:

    Previous med surg. experience preferred, or previous experience in Endoscopy or a procedure oriented setting.


    LICENSURE:

    CNA CPR Certification

    Must be able to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously with attention to detail and accuracy, in a fast paced, stressful environment. Frequent interruptions by staff, patients, and families. Interactions with nursing staff, physicians, and other departments. Demonstrates a positive attitude by taking pride in their work, and not criticizing, condemning, or complaining about others. Is a role model for other staff members. Willingly orients new employees. Ability to deal efficiently with a wide variety of individuals.
