A member of the patient care team, who, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurses assists in the provision of physical and emotional care to patients in accordance with hospital policy. Assists the physician and RN during endoscopic procedures, and has the responsibility of cleaning and sterilization of endoscopic equipment.
Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Competence
1.1. Sets up and turns over procedure rooms keeping up with schedule
1.2. Assists the RN in patient positioning during procedure
1.3. Demonstrates ability to set up, maintain and operate ALL equipment used
1.4. Inspects all equipment prior to use and reports any malfunctions immediately. Takes equipment out of service
1.5. Accurately collects and labels specimens
1.6. Follows Dept. policies for cleaning and disinfection of all equipment used
1.7. Provides nursing care within the CNA scope of practice to patients in Endoscopy and Ambulatory Care.
1.8. Anticipates needs of the RN/MD during Endoscopic procedures + responds appropriately
1.9. Demonstrates use of clean/ aseptic technique
1.10. Protects patients and themselves by following guidelines for infection control + protective equipment
1.11. Assists with bronchoscopies on a rotating basis during off hours.

4.4. Takes call to support new RN during orientation process to provide coverage during first call weekend and also first call shift during week.

5.1. Reports to work on time, prepared to work and follow hospital policies for notice of lateness/absenteeism and time off requests.
5.2. Prioritizes responsibilities appropriately and complete tasks within assigned time frames. Readily accepts assignments.

5.4. Take initiative to use down time productively.
5.5. Takes initiative to keep informed and updated on department and hospital information by attending staff meetings, checking e-mails, and department postings.

Previous med surg. experience preferred, or previous experience in Endoscopy or a procedure oriented setting.
CNA CPR Certification
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously with attention to detail and accuracy, in a fast paced, stressful environment. Frequent interruptions by staff, patients, and families. Interactions with nursing staff, physicians, and other departments. Demonstrates courtesy and excellent customer service skills in all interactions. Demonstrates ownership of all interactions until resolution. Demonstrates a positive attitude by taking pride in their work, and not criticizing, condemning, or complaining about others. Is a role model for other staff members. Willingly orients new employees. Ability to deal efficiently with a wide variety of individuals.
