Performs a variety of diversified duties involving scanning and related procedures. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities: 1. Performs warm up calibration procedures necessary to ready the scanners for patient imaging. 1.1. Performs proper machine warm and calibration every morning as noted by Radiologist through quality image. 2. Sets up and operates the CAT Scan equipment to ensure accuracy and picture quality. 2.1. Operates the CAT scanner to produce images for diagnosis according to department policy as noted by supervisor and radiologist. 2.2. Transfers images to produce high quality CAT Scan exams for diagnosis according to department policy and procedures as noted by supervisor and/or radiologist feedback. 2.3. Assists radiologist in invasive procedures in a competent manner as noted by supervisor and radiologist. 2.4. Demonstrates competent and proficient use of the Hospital Picture Achieving System (PACS) as observed by the supervisor and Radiologist. 3. Selects and operates equipment as directed for patient exam. 3.1. Follows proper protocols for patient exam according to established department procedures as noted by supervisor and/or Radiologist feedback. 3.2. Uses correct operating parameters according to established department protocols as noted by supervisor, etc. 4. Obtains pertinent clinical information from patients and charts, explains procedure and encourages cooperation through quality patient care. 4.1. Utilizes safety screening sheets on every patient as noted by supervisor and/or patient feedback. 4.2. Reviews every inpatient's chart for clinical history and lab results to ensure proper care of patient during study as noted by supervisor and/or feedback. 4.3. Reviews clinical data with every outpatient to ensure safety and proper exam performance as noted by supervisor and radiologist feedback. 4.4. Explains procedures to every patient in a professional manner as noted by supervisor and patient feedback. 4.5. Communicates with patient throughout the exam to ensure cooperation for a quality exam as observed by supervisor and exam quality. 5. Consults with radiologist in charge for required exam and set up prior to patient imaging. 5.1. Consults with radiologist prior to patient exam for non-protocol exams as noted by radiologist feedback. 5.2. Provides radiologist with all possible patient records to ensure a proper exam as noted by radiologist feedback. 5.3. Carries out radiologist directives independently as noted by radiologist feedback and/or supervisor. 6. Schedules and coordinates all patient scheduling, preparation and arranges for patient transport. 6.1. Coordinates schedule of patient flow to ensure smooth work pattern as noted by staff and patient feedback. 6.2. Relays proper preparations to patient to ensure high quality study will be performed as noted on visual inspection of films and/or through feedback. 6.3. Arranges for patient transport to and from department whenever needed according to established department procedures as noted by feedback from patient and staff. 7. Responsible for keeping work area clean and well stocked and maintaining equipment. 7.1. Keeps work area clean and well stocked every day as noted by supervisor and/or patient feedback. 7.2. Recognizes potential equipment problems and notifying service technician or supervisor on all problems as indicated by feedback and poor image quality, 8. Maintains pertinent section logs and performs clerical duties as needed. 8.1. Keeps proper log data on every patient as noted by supervisor and/or feedback. 8.2. Prepares the proper paperwork on every patient in the absence of the secretary as noted by supervisor or feedback. 9. Administers I.V. contrast. 9.1. Performs I.V. infusions in accordance to department protocol. 9.2. Reviews patient history for any previous contrast reaction and/or any contraindication on all patients as noted by feedback. 10. Demonstrates basic leadership skills and professional growth. 10.1. Demonstrates ability to function in any position within assigned areas to ensure continuation of patient services as required as observed by supervisor. 10.2. Consistently maintains good working relationships with co-workers and demonstrates a willingness to assist staff in performing radiographic procedures or other related duties as needed as observed by supervisor. 10.3. Willingly accepts additional assignments and responsibilities as required as observed by supervisor. 10.4. Instructs and demonstrate procedures and proper use of equipment to new staff, students and residents as noted by supervisor and feedback from staff. 10.5. Always demonstrates proper, efficient communications (both in person and by telephone) and listening skills and responds accordingly as evidenced by feedback from staff, students and as observed by supervisor. 11. Plans and/or implements care for assigned patients. 11.1. Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from adolescence to old age and applies developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the adult patient as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff. 11.2. Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from toddler to adolescent and applies developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the child patient as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff. 11.3. Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from infant to toddler and applies developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the child patient as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff. 12. Types all applicable information into the computer system. 12.1. Types all demographic patient information from the consult into department computer according to computer program and department protocol as observed by supervisor. 12.2. Types all pertinent clinical data from the consult into appropriate section of the computer screen according to department protocol as observed by supervisor. 12.3. Visually checks the computer monitor with patient information and reports any errors to supervisor. 12.4. Accurately retrieves and updates patient information on computer as observed by supervisor. 12.5. Follows downtime procedure according to department protocol as observed by supervisor. 13. Contributes to an effective quality management and quality control program for assigned area that is consistent with overall departmental/hospital quality management plan. 13.1. Monitors Q.A. activities in accordance to section plan as observed by supervisor. 13.2. Participates in the CPI process/shift management reports and Q.A. activities according to department guidelines. 14. Patient Satisfaction: ED & Inpatient scores

Proven Cat Scan experience preferred.

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of radiation. They are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
