A professional licensed Physical Therapist who is responsible for evaluation and treatment of patients, development and follow through of treatment plans to address patient needs in accordance with hospital policies and APTA standards of practice. Provides supervision to physical therapy assistants and support staff.?????

  • 1. Performs a comprehensive evaluation as evidenced by the clinical documentation.
  • 1.1. Evaluation is comprehensive and appropriate to patient's age and diagnosis.
  • 1.2. Formulates goals that are time oriented, objective, and measureable.
  • 1.3. Develops a plan of care to promote optimum function and improvement tht is consistent with identified problems.
  • 1.4. Evaluations are clearly written or dictated and required information included (onset date, diagnosis, social history, appropriate objective data, pain, assessment/ problem list, goals with time frames, education goals, patient/ family goals, barriers to learning, treatment plan.)
  • 2. Demonstrates competence in all physical therapy modalities and procedures in accordance with departmental policies.
  • 2.1. Demonstrates competence with use of equipment in department.
  • 2.2. Applies modalities in proper manner and properly adjusts and sets equipment prior to use by patients.
  • 2.3. Demonstrates awareness of precautions and contraindications for modalities.
  • 2.4. Monitors patient tolerance/ response and appropriately adjusts intervention as needed.
  • 3. Documentation of evaluations, re-evaluations, and progress notes is professional, concise, accurate, and timely.
  • 3.1. Is responsible to write legible, concise, relevant, timely, and inclusive documentation that communicates care provided, patient status, and ongoing needs.
  • 3.2. Documents periodic reassessments that include objective data, progress towards established goals (within time frames), and ongoing/ revised treatment plan
  • 3.3. Writes periodic physician progress reports, monthly recertification forms. Obtains physician certification for continued treatment in timely manner.
  • 3.4. Writes or dictates a timely discharge note that includes discharge status and addresses goals.
  • 4. Demonstrates leadership skills in supervision of physical therapy assistants and aides.
  • 4.1. Appropriately delegates patient care interventions to PTA following APTA guidelines. Is aware of PTA schedules and regularly shares patients with assistants.
  • 4.2. Provides instruction, follow up communication, and support as needed.
  • 4.3. Performs required supervisory observations with patient and PTA, as evidenced in the medical record.
  • 4.4. Demonstrates responsibility in supervision of supportive personnel (aides) in patient care.
  • 5. Knows how to coordinate work. Works in an organized and efficient manner.
  • 5.1. Displays ability to treat more than one patient at a time as modalities and treatments allow.
  • 5.2. Responds to changes in the work schedule, demonstrates flexibility in view of interruption.
  • 5.3. Informs supervisor/ director of changes in work schedule, coverage needs, and patient issues.
  • 5.4. Keeps schedule current and neat.
  • 6. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • 6.1. Maintains mature and professional manner with fellow employees, exhibiting composure and confidence even during stressful situations.
  • 6.2. Assumes care for physical and psychological/ social needs of the patients. Explains procedures to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
  • 6.3. Displays a positive attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program.
  • 6.4. Develops therapeutic rapport with patients and families.
  • 7. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intradepartmenally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • 7.1. Demonstrates willingness and ability to assist others as requested.
  • 7.2. Demonstrates initiative to help others and maintain productivity.
  • 7.3. Receptive to constructive input and follows through on recommendations.
  • 7.4. Makes suggestions/ recommendations for changes within the department and solutions to problems.
  • 8. Maintains and enhances personal knowledge as well a promoting professional standards in physical therapy. Attends all safety related training programs.
  • 8.1. Seeks opportunities to advance skills and knowledge from other staff, professional organizations, and attending continuing education programs.
  • 8.2. Shares expertise/ information/ techniques with staff and colleagues at meetings and inservices.
  • 8.3. Promotes a safe environment for patients and self.
  • 8.4. Practices aseptic techniques, adheres to infection control policies.

    Other information:


    Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy with a B.S., M.S., or D. degree.


    At least 3 months probationary period commencing with date of hire.?????


    Rhode Island PT license or eligible. CPR certification?????



    Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in verbal and written form. Basic computer knowledge required. Pleasant and friendly interactions.
