JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is responsible for providing advanced clinical support in the patient care setting. The CRN facilitates evidence based care, improves system processes, supports care coordination, facilitates outcomes management, establishes an evolving risk assessment, supports the patient experience, strives for ongoing quality improvement and serves as a role model for inter-professional communication. Uses interpersonal and clinical skills to role-model, motivate, and contribute to positive patient outcomes. Nursing strategic framework will be utilized by incorporating transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice and new knowledge, innovation, and improvements.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Role models and supports excellence in clinical practice and promotes a culture of safe, high quality care within the organization.
2. Responds to all codes.
3. Implements specialized and non-routine nursing care for patients in critical care, medical surgical units and specialty procedures as warranted.
4. Assumes responsibility for the short-term coordination and management of care for specific patients during emergencies.
5. Acts as a resource providing training on patient care procedures, equipment, etc.
6. Ensures that patient care services staff are meeting evidence-based practice standards and institutional policies and strategies.
7. Addresses variations in clinical outcomes for the patient population
8. Supports staff to provide safe, effective, high quality care and optimal outcomes in the patient care departments.
9. Serves as a clinical resource to provide efficient patient care, positive staff feedback, support and empowerment of clinical staff.
10. In collaboration with the service line educator, fosters development of situational decision making to ensure safety environment is maintained.
11. Role models safe and effective patient handoff (transfer, discharges, change in levels of care and all care settings.)
12. Maintains situational awareness of at risk patient\u2019s clinical status within patient care departments and rounds on units to preamtively prevent adverse outcomes.
13. Serves as a supporter to clinical staff, empowering their advocacy of patient care.
14. Promotes the use of scientific principles and critical thinking skills in the delivery of nursing care.
15. Provides opportunities for staff to observe and participate in physical assessment , data review,
evaluation of patient outcomes and other learning experiences/opportunities.
16. Works with the staff on developing time management, prioritization, critical thinking and effective communication skills on a continuum.
17. Meets performance expectations for Standards of Professional Behavior.
18. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
UNIT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains Critical Care Competencies including ACLS, Cardiac Dysrhythmia, IV push medications. Can start IVs.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN matriculated within 6 months of hire. Specialty certification preferred.
Experience: Minimal 2-3 years (within last 3 years) adult critical care, ED, or PACU experience required.
Training: BLS required. ACLS required. PALS required within 6 months of hire.
Licensure: Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse license
Other: Demonstrated effective collaboration, strong interpersonal and written skills. Able to prioritize and critically think. Demonstrates a high degree of initiative and self-direction. Demonstrates a calm supportive approach to staff under pressure.
