JOB SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and supervises individual patient care on a nursing unit/department according to unit policies and procedures. Provides supervision of non-RN personnel on the assigned unit. When assuming the charge role, delegates and supervises unit activities. May be requires to work on other nursing units according to distribution of staff and patients. Performs other duties as assigned or requested in order to maintain a high level of service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
\u2022 1. Nursing Process
o 1.1. The Critical Care Nurse utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation while caring for our patients maintaining confidentiality and dignity. The Critical Care Nurse provides safe, effective evidenced based care tailored to the individual needs of the patient and family. As a core member of the care delivery team, the Critical Care Nurse partners with the team to facilitate the coordination of patient care at the unit level utilizing the principles of patient/family centered care.
o 1.2. The critical care nurse uses a 5 step process to deliver high quality comprehensive and individualized care incorporating:
1. Patient assessment
2. Problem identification
3. Establishment of desired outcomes
4. Implementation of interventions
5. Evaluation of care with necessary revisions.
\u2022 2. Clinician Patient Relationship
o 2.1. Demonstrates a holistic and caring approach throughout the nurse patient relationship.
\u2022 3. Clinical Expertise / Problem Solving
o 3.1. Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team to support the work of the team, unit activities, and the accomplishment of positive patient outcomes.
\u2022 4. Collaboration/Teamwork
o 4.1. Delegates responsibilities to appropriate members of the care delivery team based upon an understanding of others' roles, scope of practice, knowledge, and capabilities to ensure optimal utilization of personnel.
o 4.2. Contributes to a positive work environment by being responsive to the need for change.
o 4.3. Maintains a collaborative work relationship with staff members through respect and recognition of cultural and human diversity.
\u2022 5. Practice Development / Positive Impact (improvement of the self and improvement of the practice of nursing}
o 5.1. Successfully completes the competency based orientation within designated time frame.
o 5.2. Participates with team members in activities to improve care environment.
o 5.3. Responsible for being current with staff meeting minutes.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing is required. ADN accepted with proof of matriculation into a BSN program upon hire. BSN Preferred. Proficient in use of computer software to include electronic patient records. Must have ability to use internet for literature searches regarding care for patients.
Experience: Two years Critical Care experience preferred, 2 years previous hospital experience (with last 2 years) required.
Training: BLS and ACLS required.
Licensure: Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse license
