Position
Summary
The Nursing Assistant assists in patient care throughout nursing areas, and is responsible for the safe transport of patients via
wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an Observer for any
patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation in order to maximize his/her safety. Performs
general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
Responsibilities
\u2022 1. Essential Functions
1.1. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direct supervision of
licensed personnel and according to their standards of practice.

1.2. Communicates to licensed personnel any changes noticed inn patients condition, or any problems with treatments or
devices.
\u2022
1.3. Assists with basic patient care including but not inclusive to AM and PM care, vital signs, toileting, I&O, feeding, activities
of daily living, transport of patients throughout hospital, responds to call lights promptly and provides necessary assistance.
Orients patients and families to the unit - sets up equipment in patient?s rooms to prepare for admissions.

\u2022 1.4. Maintains clean and orderly patient care, storage, pantry and utility areas.

\u2022 2.1. Adheres to The Westerly Hospital policies and procedures
\u2022 2.2. Adheres to the hospital exposure control plans/blood-borne and airborne pathogens
2.3. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department to provide quality
patient care.

\u2022 2.4. Acts in the role of patient observer when required
\u2022 3. Staff/Self Development
\u2022 3.1. Acts as a resource and role model
3.2. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to safety of the
organization and specific job related hazards.

3.3. Takes initiative to keep informed and updated on department and hospital information by attending staff meetings,
checking e-mails, and department posting.

\u2022 3.4. Actively participates in training and educational activities for one's own development.

\u2022 4.2. Functions as a preceptor to new staff. Gives constructive and timely feedback to the orientee.

Other Information
EDUCATION:
High school graduate or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred. Previous behavioral health experience preferred
LICENSURE:
Current RI Nursing Assistant License Basic Life Support CPI training within 1 yr of employment
SPECIAL_SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide
variety of individuals Knowledge of basic medical terminology a plus Basic computer knowledge is a plus Ability to move or lift
patients and equipment
