To facilitate the running of the OR Suite by cleaning the rooms between cases when the housekeeper is busy or cleaning instruments and equipment needed for other cases. Assists in moving patients from stretchers to the OR table as holding extremities for surgical prepping.
Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Competence in Patient Care
1.1. Complies with patient safety standards.
1.2. Complies with CDC hand washing techniques.
1.3. Protects patients and themselves by following patient guidelines for infection control and protective equipment.
1.4. Displays knowledge + clinical awareness of Steam + Steris sterilization process.
1.5. Appropriately sets up OR rooms + table configurations consistent with preference cards.
1.6. Demonstrates knowledge + skill in equipment used in the OR to their level of expertise.
2. Maintains a clean, safe + orderly unit environment
2.1. Between surgical cases, prepares room by washing table and floors, puts clean linen on table, washes pails, replaces disposable suction canisters, disposable anesthesia breathing circuits, EKG electrodes and replaces linen & trash hampers.
2.2. Puts away stock supplies, sterile and unsterile supplies and linen, keep removal from hall.
2.3. Demonstrates expertise needed to clean, assemble, maintain and resterilize all specialized equipment and surgical instruments.
2.4. Utilize isolation procedures per policy.
2.5. Assists in cleaning shelves in all work areas, washes equipment, cleans kitchen and break room.
2.6. Maintains adequate inventory levels.
3. Supports the nursing staff in Delivery of Care
3.1. Maintains communication regarding patient care issues.
3.2. Always reports patient?s issues to RN.
3.3. Positively participates in discussion regarding patient care issues.
3.4. Provides resources to families & patients when requested.
3.5. Displays and projects positive attitude while interacting with co-workers, supervisors, patients and physicians.
3.6. Transfers patients to and from OR utilizing prop principles of transfer and body mechanics.
3.7. Utilizes appropriate life devices and OR and philly slides + hours not to minimize risk of injury to patient and staff.
3.8. Lifts or moves patients in & out of beds, stretchers, commodes and wheelchairs.
3.9. Assists surgeons, circulating nurse and anesthesia by holding and moving patients as needed and assists with IV insertion.
3.10. Assists patients with aspects of personal hygiene.
3.11. Obtain specimens from nursing staff for delivery to Laboratory, Radiology or Pathology.
3.12. Follows Hospital policy in use of O2 therapy within scope of CNA skill level.

6.4. Maintains confidentially with respect to patient, co-worker and hospital information by disclosing information only on a ?need to know basis? and discussing information in appropriate areas. Follows HIPPA guidelines in all communications regarding patients.
Scholastic achievement equal to four years of high school preferred. CPR certification. Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
Six months to one year OR Aide or CNA experience preferred.
Actively support and promotes strict adherence to policies and procedures outlined in the Department Manuals.
