Responsible for the direction, supervision and evaluation of nursing care during hours of duty. Has responsibility for activities concerned with assigned personnel, for the evaluation of patient care, for equipment and supplies, and interdepartmental relations.
Responsibilities: 1. Essential Functions
1.1. Assumes responsibility for the operational needs of the nursing division and for the nursing care delivered during the assigned shift
1.2. Collaborates with the nurse manager to a service that is consistent with the patient care beliefs and shared management philosophy of the department.
1.3. Assists the nurse manager to monitor/maintain unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and Hospital policy for patient services, and environmental and personnel safety.
1.4. In collaboration with the nurse manager, is responsible for effective and efficient fiscal management of department operations to ensure proper utilization of organizational and financial resources.

2.1. Consults with patients/families through primary nurse request, direct family request, and/or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization.
2.2. Adheres to The Westerly Hospital policies and procedures
2.3. Adheres to the hospitals exposure control plans/blood- borne and airborne pathogens
2.4. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department to provide quality patient care.

Five years recent clinical experience in relevant area of nursing practice. Previous nursing management experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency. Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, to problem solve, to confront/resolve issues, to motivate others, to plan, organize, and direct the activities of others
Current registration as RN in the state. BLS PALS ACLS
Demonstrated proficiency in acute-care nursing, knowledge, and skills. Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals Basic computer knowledge is preferred Strong ability to communicate and interact professionally in busy environment?????
