Reports to the Director of YNHH Sleep Medicine and works collaboratively with Yale Medicine Chief of Sleep Medicine and Medical Director of Sleep Medicine, hospital and physician leadership, physicians, clinical staff, and hospital departments to ensure goals and objectives are successfully met. Responsible for providing leadership, program development and management, operational direction, financial oversight, marketing, and strategic planning. Works collaboratively with YNHH and YNHHS clinical colleagues, hospital, and university administration in evaluating and developing business partnerships and programmatic support thereby providing quality clinical outcomes, implementing process improvement projects, managing costs, and ensuring profitability. Responsible for daily operations, personnel management, fiscal management, clinical policy development, marketing, and strategic initiatives of the Sleep Medicine program.
Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Management 1.1. Monitor staff compliance with YNHH policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, as well as with systems and processes developed to enhance patient care. 1.2. Articulate program vision and utilize resources to ensure staff commitment to strategic and program objectives. 1.3. Achieve seamless delivery of service by appropriately and effectively communicating with staff, and other hospital leaders, colleagues and physicians. 1.4. Collaborates in the development of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team; effectively utilizes staff. 1.5. Formulates and ensures successful programmatic success and provides recommendations for change based on trends related to market demands, research, and changes in clinical practices. 1.6. Understands and communicates all relevant regulatory standards to staff, ensuring that standards are met or exceeded. 1.7. Evaluates program operations and implements cost effective changes as appropriate. 1.8. Monitors program growth and outcomes through systematic documentation of strengths, opportunities, and program successes. 2. Leadership: 2.1. Promotes the organization to all customers through communication of Yale New Haven Hospital's mission and values. 2.2. Identifies and communicates opportunities for collaboration within the department and medical staff. 2.3. Ensures employees adhere to vendor policy. 2.4. Assists Director and Physician Leadership in the preparation of departmental plans and development of goals and objectives. 2.5. Manages the ongoing development of staff. Provides staff education, enrichment, and professional growth opportunities. 2.6. Develops job performance standards and evaluates continued performance of employees. 2.7. Develops staff through coaching, mentoring and delegation. 2.8. In collaboration with Director, Sleep Medicine Chief, and Medical Director, ensures that system and processes are in place for the recruitment and retention of required staff in order to meet patient needs, regulatory, fiscal, and strategic planning requirements of department. 2.9. Provides vision and leadership to staff in a collaborative environment that offers job satisfaction, recognition, and stimulates innovative thinking to accomplish goals and objectives. 2.10. Provides supervision and assistance to all employees related to employment, job performance standards, annual performance evaluations, peer review, and other role related duties. Ensures that hospital policies and procedures, code of conduct, mandatory training, and other required duties are
adhered to by staff. 2.11. Implements and actively supports the integration of change through open communication and use of change management skills. 2.12. Manages disciplinary and other employee relations issues; consults with Human Resources as appropriate. 2.13. Facilitates employee involvement with YNHH employee engagement surveys. Analyzes and plans for resolution of employee satisfaction feedback and results. 2.14. Supports and exemplifies the principles of a High Reliability Organization. 2.15. Ensures a professional work environment and maintains responsibility for professional practice and development. 2.16. On behalf of Yale New Haven Health System, serves as an administrative and clinical liaison for all sleep programs within the Health System. 2.17. Performs other administrative duties as required. 3. Customer Service: 3.1. Achieve excellence in delivery of service by appropriately involving patients, families, physicians, customers, and staff to ensure commitment and high quality care. 3.2. Ensures staff accountability for adherence to excellent customer service standards. 3.3. Develops customer standards reflecting excellence consistent with Hospital policy for internal and external customers in collaboration with unit leadership and appropriate departments. 3.4. Models customer service standards and serves as a role model. 3.5. Ensures that confidentiality of patient, staff, and PHI is maintained. 4. Outcomes Management: 4.1. Ensure that desired clinical outcomes are achieved through cost effective and efficient processes. 4.2. Develops and implements processes to collect clinical data which serves as a reliable indicator for clinical effectiveness and quality of care. 4.3. Identifies and analyzes trends in satisfaction, quality outcomes, and practice excellence using data systematically to guide change in unit/program practices. 4.4. Directs efforts in clinical areas to reduce waste, loss, damage and pilferage. 4.5. Ensures facility maintains regulatory compliance and accreditation for both JACHO and AASM sleep Disorder Centers Accredation. 4.6. Understands and communicates all relevant regulatory standards to staff, ensuring that standards are met or exceeded. 5. Financial Management 5.1. Understands and assists in the development of departmental budgets to ensure the delivery of cost-effective quality care. In conjunction with leadership, prepares departmental non-salary, salary, capital, and operational budgets. Monitors department expenditure performance against approved budgets to ensure efficient and cost effective operations. 5.2. Participates in financial forecasting and planning in collaboration with leadership team. 5.3. Develops comprehensive analysis for financial and programmatic recommendations for departmental leadership utilizing consistent tools for resource analysis. 5.4. Communicates comprehensive rationale for financial decisions. . 5.5. Provides oversight of coding and billing processes. 5.6. Collaborates with Finance, Information Systems, and other departments to manage billing practices and ensures appropriate charge capture. 5.7. Monitors performance against hospital and departmental goals and objectives, and prepares related monthly and annual reports. 5.8. Collaborates with Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale Medicine Finance Departments with review and oversight of 50/50 program. Maintains ongoing, collaborative communication with Yale Medicine related to 50/50 program. 5.9. Ensures all 50/50 program revenue and expenses, including capital purchases, are accurately incorporated into the 50/50 financial statements.
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and/or Allied Health Related field (RRT) required.
Three (3) to five (5) years clinical practice experience required. Two(2) to four (4) years of demonstrated leadership/supervisory/management experience required. Experience in sleep medicine preferred.
Current Connecticut licensure required
Ability to manage various levels of clinical and support staff. Ability to manage and remain effective with multiple priorities. Excellent communication and clinical skills. Must have the ability to develop relationships, work collaboratively and effectively in partnership with physicians, clinical staff, hospital departments, and outside organizations. Knowledge of and proficient in the operation and use of computer-based information systems in order to facilitate all aspects of care delivery. Knowledgeable of Quality Improvement processes and capable of implementing concepts. Ability to lead and motivate work teams and implement change as required.
Responsible for leadership and clinical oversight of Sleep Medicine program. Accountable for clinical programs and implementation and monitoring of process improvements while adhering to the department, programmatic, and institutional business plans.
Must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and ability to adapt to a variety of tasks. Must demonstrate ability to obtain results efficiently and effectively while maintaining best practice and achievement of outcomes. Maintain current knowledge of healthcare regulations and practices that impact Sleep Medicine operations.
