Under the direction of the Director of Laboratory Services and the Chief of Laboratory Medicine, is responsible for providing oversight and management support for the laboratory sections on the St Raphael campus, the Blood Gas Laboratory on the York St campus and the Point of Care Testing program in all quality and operational support functions.
This person will also assist with multiple projects as self-initiated or directed and will assume departmental responsibilities in the absence of the Director, Laboratory Services. Must possess a high level of autonomy. The Senior Manager - Clinical Services will also contribute to the development and management of both capital and operating budgets for areas of responsibility as well as operationalizing key strategic initiatives within all areas of responsibility. Responsible for setting the strategic direction of areas supervised. Operationalizes key strategic initiatives for areas of responsibility.

1. Provides operational support to the management of the laboratory sections at the St Raphael campus and the Blood Gas laboratory on the York St campus to assure all of these areas are functioning appropriatly. 2. Develops process improvements to assure all areas of responsibility are functioning efficiently and effectively including cross campus consistency with policies and procedures.. 3. Responsible for delegating work to assigned staff and establishing workflow standards. 4. Provides guidance and support to staff and ensures the work is completed efficiently and correctly. 5. Conducts timely orientation and annual performance reviews on assigned staff; counsels and develops performance improvement plans as required. Contributes to the performance reviews of staff indirectly supervised. 6. Leads by example, successfully demonstrating the personal attributes defined in the Yale New Haven Health System Core Success Factors. 7. Actively participates in and supports the development, mentoring and coaching of staff. 8. Understands YNHHS vision, goals and strategies and communicates to others. Able to set clear goals and directions. 9. Designs and utilizes dashboards and reports to monitor key critical to quality measurements and operational
goals. Provides seamless clinical and operational data in a useable format allowing for the identification ,
analysis and evaluation of alternative strategies as solutions of business and operational issues requiring
management attention. 10. Provides administrative guidance to the Medical Director of the Blood Gas Laboratory. Directly
responsibile for Human Resources and Employee Relations issues relating to this lab section. 11. Coordinates departmental participation in community health care activities to include school based healthcare programs, tours and health fair participation. Delegates appropriate responsibilities to designated staff as necessary. 12. Provides managerial oversight to departmental POCT program to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements are met. 13. Responsible for annual review of department policies and procedures. 14. Oversees departmental laboratory week committee initiatives. 15. Developes and implements special projects relating to the operational and technical activities of the areas of responsibility. 16. Participates in coordination and monitoring of departmental compliance plan. Maintains working knowledge of laboratory compliance regulations. 17. Under the direction of the Director, Laboratory Services, in the absence of a laboratory manager (vacancy and illness related matters) provides management oversight to individual clinical laboratories. 18. Attends various professional forums and/or continuing education to maintain expertise on laboratory operations. 19. Performs other related duties as directed. 20. Co-leads, with the Senior Manager for Lab Operations, the departmental Workflow Committee. 21. Participates in coordination and monitoring of departmental safety plan. Maintains working knowledge of laboratory safety regulations.
Bachelor's degree in health science or business required. Masters Degree or masters level course work required with an emphasis in healthcare or business administration preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a healthcare setting including at least two years of experience supervising and directing the work of staff.
MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP) certification or equivalent required.
Excellent organizational verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer services skills required. Highly proficient with Microsoft office products to include Word, Excel, Powerpoint. General knowledge of laboratory quality assurance, HCFA compliance and safety. Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills are needed. Responsible to the Director, Laboratory Services and the Chief of Laboratory Medicine for effective operation of the areas of responsibility to assure quality patient care is maintained. Effectively manages special projects as assigned.
Regularly exercises independent judgement in the performance of all duties and responsibilities. Must be able to handle multiple projects concurrently. Makes recommendations for the development and improvement of departmental systems.
