Performs highly technical Radiation Therapy related duties, including assisting in special procedures, to provide quality patient care in the treatment of disease by ionizing radiation, and participates in the clinical instruction program conducted for students in the Radiation Therapy School (at YNHH and L&M) to meet the department's and hospital's mission.

Responsibilities: 1. Adheres to the "I Am YNHH" service excellence pledge and promotes a positive work environment. 2. Radiation Therapist Process. 2.1. The Radiation Therapist utilizes the process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation while caring for our patients, maintaining confidentiality and dignity. 2.2. The Radiation Therapist provides safe, effective evidence based care tailored to the individual needs of the patient and family. As a core member of the RT delivery team, the Radiation Therapist verbally reinforces Radiation Oncologist-s advice to patients regarding reactions to treatment and their care. 2.3. The Radiation Therapist uses a 5 step process to deliver high quality comprehensive and individualized care incorporating:

4.Implementation of interventions, referring patient to appropriate ancillary support when need.
5.Evaluation of care with necessary revisions. 2.4. Performs all technical duties according to department policy and procedure. 2.5. Provides technical support where needed as required for patient care. Provides coverage where needed when a change in schedule is indicated. 2.6. Employee is required to be available for emergency and weekend call, as required and scheduled for patient care. 2.7. Detects and immediately reports equipment malfunction to and noted by supervisor or Physicist. 2.8. Operates all therapeutic equipment according to manufacturer-s standards and departmental policy. 2.9. Maintains a quiet and clutter-free work area. 3. Clinical Expertise / Problem Solving 3.1. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and adaptable in managing diverse clinical situations 3.2. Organizes and prepares for daily activity in assigned area, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the department. 3.3. Prepares patient charts and images for daily and weekly chart rounds, dating and checking chart rounds check list for accuracy in all areas, as noted in chart rounds minutes. 3.4. Maintains continuing education requirements. Maintains Connecticut licensure and professional status as a member of the ARRT, as documented in employee records. 3.5. Delivers excellence in patient care through compliance with all patient safety and regulatory initiatives. 4. Clinical Instruction 4.1. Actively participates in the training of students in the School of Radiation Therapy, working with the Director to teach and review students appropriately. 4.2. Treats students with respect and dignity to ensure professionalism. 4.3. Assumes responsibility for students in the treatment room, actively teaching clinical techniques. 4.4. Conducts student clinical rotation evaluations, observed by clinical supervisor and/or Program Director.
Graduation from an approved school of Radiation Therapy Technology; A.R.R.T. registration and CT Licensure required.
Experience is preferred in radiation therapy.
CT Licensure Required
Ensures proper set up and effective operation of equipment to deliver prescribed Radiation Therapy treatment. Ensures that proper techniques are used in the treatment of patients. May oversee the work activities of students assigned to the area (YNHH and L&M).
Observes patients being treated and reports unusual reactions and events to the Chief Technologist and/or Radiation Therapist. Exercises great care in setting up equipment and in observing departmental safety procedures. Calculates prescribed dose and interprets plans.
