Reporting to the Sr. Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, the Director, Nursing Career Academy is responsible for developing and executing a system wide strategy for Nursing Career Development, clinical and leadership components, in collaboration and partnership with Nursing and Human Resources: Talent Acquisition (TA) and the Institute for Excellence (IFE).
The Director, Nursing Career Academy ensures processes and structures are in place to support the Nursing Career Academy?s guiding principles and design
• Leverage diversity and talent of YNHHS resources and opportunities for nursing
• Support a model of life-long learning, fulfillment and advancement for nursing
• Enable everyone to contribute at their highest level across YNHHS for nursing
• Create pipelines of talent of clinical nurses and nurse leaders for leadership continuity/succession planning
Is accountable for the operations and performance goals of the Nursing Career Academy.
Responsibilities: 1. Understands YNHHS vision, goals and strategies and communicates to others. Able to set clear goals and directions. 2. Responsible for delegating work to assigned staff, establishing workflow standards, providing guidance and support while ensuring work is completed efficiently and effectively as evidenced by outcome measures/metrics and goals. 3. Develop and execute a system wide strategy for Nursing Career Development, clinical and leadership components in collaboration and partnership with Nursing, Talent Acquisition, Institute for Excellence and other stakeholders. 4. Build a Nursing Career Academy infrastructure adaptable to future trends in the healthcare industry and integrate advancements impacting nursing careers and career transitions for the development of clinical nurses and nurse leaders. 5. Develop Nursing Career Academy design standards and guidelines to include metrics/reports, process, policies, roles and resource allocation. 5.1. Establish and monitor metrics inclusive of those which demonstrate employee learning, skill development, performance, career advancement and promotion. 5.2. Establish and ensure on-line portal connectivity for Nursing Career Academy across the YNHHS 6. Establish efforts to develop a culture that embraces and leverages the 70-20-10 model of development to strengthen and align life-long learning and advancement for the adult learner. 7. Build relationships at every level of Yale New Haven Health System and with academic institutions and other key stakeholders for a large scalable approach for career exploration, experiential learning and development. 8. Partner with key stakeholders to assess, design, develop and deliver Nursing Career Academy initiatives across YNHHS. 9. Maintain effective matrix relationship with each of the delivery network representatives to serve as a resource and to ensure established standards are followed. 10. Serve as the chair, of the Nursing Career Academy Advisory Council, whose members may provide strategic advice, guidance and support to the Nursing Career Academy. 11. . Oversee all operations including budget development, equipment, technology and administrative duties necessary to build and sustain a successful Nursing Career Academy. 12. Collaborates with YNHHS Councils/Committees and leadership to identify and align educational initiatives and career paths responsive to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare environment. 13. Develop and execute business plans for program expansion of Nursing Career Academy leadership and clinical components based on ROI. 14. Publish, share and present internally and externally.
Master's degree in nursing, education, healthcare management or business administration required, Doctorate degree rpreferred.
Minimum of eight to ten years' of experience in healthcare leadership, management/supervisory experience with progressive responsibility in accountability, leadership, supervision, and project management. Candidates with experience in an academic environment, nursing leadership, talent acquisition or program development. Demonstrated experience developing large scale or enterprise-wide learning programs and developing nurse curriculum.
Knowledge of enterprise-wide recruitment and retention strategies/trends for nursing and market forces affecting them. Previous clinical experience and a working relationship with all clinical departments who employ nursing staff. Demonstrated competency in project management, ability to lead groups and work on numerous projects simultaneously. Strong communication and exceptional customer service skills to build relationships in a complex environment. Demonstrated skills in interpersonal, problem solving, time management, written, oral communication skills are required.
Promotes a dynamic and welcoming career development environment where the commitment to nurses? development is maintained throughout every organizational tier and palpable to the individual nurse. Facilitate exposure of the entire YNHHS nursing workforce to opportunities for growth and development as evidenced by staff engagement, decreased turnover, increased retention rates, and other outcome measures. Achieves the key accountabilities outlined in the position description.
Use evidenced-based best practices, data analytics and technology to incorporate decision making and systems to drive the strategy of the Nursing Career Academy. Communicate and interact effectively to encourage collaboration when problem solving and planning. Understand the diversity of customer needs in order to exceed expectations. Must be able to ensure collaboration with administrative, nursing and Northeast Medical Group leadership to guide the Nursing Career Academy management and ongoing transformation to meet future needs.
Must be able to travel to all DNs within the YNHHS
