Summary:
Performs a variety of duties to ensure the proper preparation for the Operating Room to include but not limited to: ensuring materials and equipment are available, room turnover, anesthesia machine/equipment cleaning, testing and stocking. These duties include knowledge of aseptic practices, setting up proper equipment and supplies, transporting patients, delivering case carts, equipment and supplies to operating rooms and assisting the anesthesia team as requested.

Responsibilities:
  • 1. Sets up all operating room cases with supplies and equipment in an accurate and timely manner.
  • 2. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique which includes checking integrity of sterile packages and opens sterile items without contamination.
  • 3. Participates in room turnover to include disinfecting and sterilizing anesthesia equipment according to established procedures and in a timely manner.
  • 4. Delivers appropriate materials and specialized equipment to operating rooms as requested and ensure all supplies and equipment are properly stored.
  • 5. Restocks and cleans anesthesia cabinets, supply carts and epidural/spinal carts in all anesthetizing locations at the end of each day, as needed.
  • 6. Sets up rooms with proper equipment and supplies.
  • 7. Recognizes and reports breaks in sterile technique in self and others.
  • 8. Sets up all anesthesia cases with supplies and equipment in an accurate and timely manner.
  • 9. Monitors progress of all operating rooms, notifying appropriate staff of add-ons or cancellations.
  • 10. Provides assistance with positioning and lifting patients.
  • 11. Obtains blood products from Blood Bank and follows proper procedures for retrieving and delivering all items.
  • 12. Receives and relays messages and requests accurately and in a timely fashion, responding to urgent/emergent situations.
  • 13. Exhibits a practical knowledge of OR policy and procedure.
  • 14. Maintains job competency on specialized equipment per hospital policy.
  • 15. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.
  • 16. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit

    Other information:

    EDUCATION:

    High School graduate or equivalent required.

    EXPERIENCE:

    One year experience in surgical setting or related work experience required

    LICENSURE:

    N/A

    SPECIAL_SKILLS:

    CPR certification required. PCA experience required. Medical Terminology preferred.
