Job Description

Under the direction of the Service Response Center Supervisor, this position transports patients to diagnostic departments and from Admitting to patient units. Transports urology discharges. Assists nursing staff in transferring patients to and from transport vehicles. Administers nasal oxygen when required. Responsible for transporting lab specimens, medical records and flowers. Delivers oxygen tanks and Operating Room schedules to patient units.

  • 1.1. Ensure proper and safe patient transportation to all areas.
  • 1.2. Obtains permission to move patients as reported by Nursing and comments from other departments. (2)
  • 1.3. Completes routine patient or patient related transports within time standards of department as indicated by monthly reports run from SRS II. (Average - 20 minutes for stretchers, 12 for wheel chairs.)
  • 1.4. Dispatches and completes all jobs using SRS II.
  • 1.5. Responsible for putting jobs on delay in SRS II. Changes job status to Dispatch when delay is complete.
  • 1.6. Verifies patient name by checking patient armband.
  • 1.7. Returns from break and lunches on time.
  • 1.8. Properly covers patients before leaving unit or testing area as observed by supervisor.
  • 2. SAFETY
  • 2.1. Enforces department safety policies and procedures to assure patients, staff and visitor safety.
  • 2.2. Adheres to safety requirements when performing jobs using the following:
  • 2.3. May include but not limited to)
  • 2.4. Wheel Chairs
  • 2.5. Stretchers
  • 2.6. Consistently maintains an orderly work environment (i.e. equipment and/or materials are properly stored etc.).
  • 2.7. Transports oxygen according to hospital and regulatory requirements as observed by supervisor and reported by nursing.
  • 2.8. Demonstrates proper lifting techniques according to department policy and procedures.
  • 2.9. Practices good hand-washing techniques at all times.
  • 2.10. Immediately reports all accidents and incidents to supervisor.Before seeing medical treatment, notifies supervisor of a work-related injury.
  • 2.11. Keeps floor free from spills, trash or articles.
  • 2.12. Ability to demonstrate fire (emergency) evacuation plan.
  • 3.1. Completes oxygen rounds as assigned following the oxygen rounds sheets.
  • 3.2. Completes cycle rounds as assigned within the time standards of the department (one-hour).
  • 3.3. Performs any additional assignments as required by manager and/or supervisor.
  • 3.4. Attends all scheduled meetings and in-services as directed by manager and/or supervisor.
  • 3.5. When Distribution Associate is not available, delivers ordered medication stock from Hospital Supply to appropriate patient care area's clean utility room.

    Other information:

    High school diploma or equivalent required.
    One year related experience preferred.
    Must be able to read and speak English, Good interpersonal and communication skills, Successful completion of hospital orientation, Successful completion of department orientation.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk .The employee must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents as well as external and internal applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by
    case basis.
