Provides recreational/activities therapy treatment services to identified patients within the Bridgeport Hospital and/or Ahlbin Centers system. Conducts assessments and implements treatment interventions for the purpose of reducing symptoms, maintaining level of functioning and/or enhancing wellness.
Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Skills 1.1. Conceptualizes, develops, implements and evaluates therapeutic groups and interventions appropriate to the treatment setting. 1.2. Conducts quarterly assessment of current treatment interventions to be sure treatment effectively meet patient needs/goals as observed by supervisor. 1.3. Designs and implements new treatment interventions in coordination with treatment team as observed by supervisor. 1.4. Spends a minimum of 60% of time in direct patient care activities as documented on productivity report. 1.5. Conducts interventions in a manner that incorporates effective use of creativity, motivation techniques and group dynamics while adhering to established policies and procedures as observed by the supervisor. 2. Clinical Documentation 2.1. Completes documentation in accordance with established unit policies and procedures. 2.2. Documentation occurs within established time frames identified in unit policies and procedures as evidenced by random chart review. 2.3. Documentation accurately reflects clinical observations and level of function performance as evidenced by random chart review. 3. Age/Setting Competencies 3.1. Demonstrates competency to work with a variety of populations in a variety of settings. 3.2. Follows established policies and procedures that apply to the population and setting as observed by supervisor. 3.3. Completes the American Therapeutic Recreation Association Competency evaluation each year and does not score below a 3 (average perceived competence) on any one category. 3.4. Relocates to assigned setting to meet patient care needs when asked to do so by supervisor. 4. Responsibility 4.1. Completes Recreational Therapy/Activities Therapy functions as assigned by the supervisor of Recreational Therapy. 4.2. Attends multidisciplinary treatment team meetings when scheduled to do so. 4.3. Attends 90-95% of scheduled recreational therapy staff meetings as reflected in meeting minutes/sign in sheet. 4.4. Conducts a minimum of 2 inservices per year at recreational staff meetings as reflected in meeting minutes. 4.5. Maintains an adequate supply of recreational/art materials necessary to deliver patient care as observed by supervisor. 4.6. Orders supplies and equipment as needed as observed during periodic review by supervisor. 4.7. Submits quality assurance reports on date due as determined by supervisor. 4.8. Submits productivity report on date as determined by supervisor. 4.9. Maintains current copy of national certification/registration in employee personnel file as determined by supervisor through periodic review of personnel file. 4.10. Assumes responsibilities for delegated activities 100% of the time as observed by supervisor. 4.11. Applies Behavior Management System up to and including seclusion 5. Performance 5.1. Demonstrates Accountability and Responsibility in daily performance role. 5.2. Identifies areas in performance needing improvement as observed by supervisor. 5.3. Accepts constructive criticism and responds by implementing corrective action as observed by supervisor. 5.4. Sets specific realistic goals for self improvement as observed by supervisor. 5.5. Completes mutually agreed upon goals within designated time frameas observed by supervisor.

*Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
Certified or eligible for certification as a certified therapeutic recreational specialist or other applicable certification.
All newly hired therapists must have current BCLS certification or obtain within one month of hire.
Bachelors degree in therapeutic recreation or a related field., The worker must be able to stand, walk, talk, hear, lift, push, pull, reach, stoop, kneel, climb and perform repetitive motions, of the wrist, fingers or hands., The worker is subject to inside environmental/atmospheric conditions such as poor ventilation and is also subject to hazards, such as exposure to chemicals., The worker must be able to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and /or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to, 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects or the human body., Functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case by case basis.
The functions of this position are consistent with the standards of practice of recreational therapy. The position reports to the supervisor of recreational therapy who will oversee the accountability for the functions of this position.
Must be able to make independent clinical decisions related to the provision of recreation therapy treatment services.
