Performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex Diagnostic Imaging equipment.

Responsibilities: 1. Performs quality and efficient ultrasound imaging in order to assist with a patient's diagnostic workup. 1.1. Follows routine protocols and/or physician's specific prescriptions when imaging, and the role of repeat examinations due to noncompliance is less than 0%, as observed by supervisor's/manger's review. 1.2. Efficiently completes imaging exams in order to maximize equpment's utilization and minimize patient's waiting time for a diagnosis, as measured by the number of patients completed by each shift, versus the section's average for that time period, and observed by supervisor/manager reviews. 1.3. Performs quality photography of images following routine departmental technique and the role of repeating films after they have been turned in for reading is less than 10%, as observed by supervisor/manager. 1.4. Demonstrates an ability to utilize independent judgement during equipment difficulties to efficiently diagnose and correct technical problems, contact service engineer, or call for technical support from supervisors, as documented by supervisor's review of QC log, with no more than four exceptions per year. 1.5. Routinely uses independent judgement to change scanning technique to maximize quality, dependent on patient type of condition, as observed by supervisor and radiologist's review, with no more than two incidents in one quarter that exams are not of inappropriate diagnostic quality. 1.6. Routinely documents accurate pathology, as reviewed by supervisor's and physician's reading. 1.7. Always performs emergency exams, as soon as the schedule allows, and as observed by supervisor, with no more than two variance per quarter. 1.8. Has minimal inactive scanning time between patients in order to maximize section's efficiency and
reduce patient delays, as observed by manager/supervisor. 1.9. Demonstrates understanding and use of sterile technique and procedure set ups. Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent regulatory compliance standards. Participates and accurately
completes all required documentation. 2. Performs quality and compassionate patient care in order to ensure patient cooperation, safety and satisfaction. 2.1. Thoroughly explains the procedure and ensures patient physical and emotional comfort, as observed by the supervisor/manager, and noted by patient complaints. 2.2. Is attentive to patient care needs, 100% of the time, and expediently calls for nursing and/or physician and medical support as required, as evidenced by incident reports, employee, physician and nursing input. 2.3. Is attentive and responsive to the concerns of all patients and their families, as noted by supervisor/manager, and evidenced by no more than one patient complaint per year. 2.4. Identifies patients and exams accurately 100% of the time according to departmental policy as
observed by supervisor or other hospital staff. 2.5. Acknowledges the patient, Introduces oneself, informs of the exam Duration, Explains the procedure,
ensures patient physical and emotional comfort during the exam, and Thanks the patient at the end. 2.6. Interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and fellow employees are fostered in a
courteous and friendly manner as evidenced by surveys, supervisor/manager, physicians, and
employee input. 2.7. Actively participates is section activities aimed at improving Service Excellence, HCAHPS scores,
and Press Ganey results. Demonstrates the committment to making patient/family visits to the section
a positive experience. 3. Performs various record?keeping, customer service functions and communicates feedback in order to ensure goals of the department are met and operation runs efficiently. 3.1. Correctly completes charges for examinations, 100% of the time, to ensure proper billing, as observed by input from scheduling/reporting manager. 3.2. Assists receptionists and Nursing, with scheduling and correct preparation instruction for patients to ensure appropriate utilization of service and measured by observation of referring physician, patient complaints and employee input. 3.3. Regularly provides supervisor/manager with both positive and negative feedback, at least once each week on issues concerning quality, efficiency and patient care. 3.4. Always ensures an adequate stock supply of emergency materials and informs the supervisor concerns of shortages, as noted by no more than two variance a year, that necessary supplies are unavailable. 3.5. Consistently answers telephone in a pleasant and courteous manner. 3.6. Reports and documents designated quality assurance responsibilities such as:
Patient injuries or complaints,
Procedure time-out, 3.7. Demonstrates a mastery of end user computer skills for all appropriate software and by accurately and independently performing related tasks such as exam scheduling, completion, document scanning and charge capture. Accurately edits/completes examinations in software to insure proper billing and medical record documentation in accordance with departmental policy. 4. Participates in various teaching and/or learning opportunities in order to further his/her own personal knowledge and to assist in expanding the knowledge of others. 4.1. Is receptive to teaching technologists, student technologists and physicians in Ultrasound, as observed by the supervisor and input provided from these students. 4.2. Attends continuing education programs to achieve the necessary required CME credits for maintaining active status of RDMS, recorded by supervisor/manager. 4.3. Maintains current CPR certification and provides documentation, as recorded by supervisor/manager. 4.4. Maintains active professional registration/certification and provides documentation, as recorded by supervisor/manger. 4.5. Keeps current of technical field through reading reference journals and materials provided by department, as observed by supervisor/manager. 5. Employee follows established safety precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties in order to ensure a safe environment. 5.1. Operates equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner, following all procedures are viewed at initial orientation, with no more than one non serious variances in this evaluation period. 5.2. Consistently demonstrates a complete knowledge of body mechanics as evidenced by no injuries sustained as a result of improper body mechanics in this evaluation period. 5.3. Demonstrates a concern for cleanliness of self and work area, and practices proper infection control techniques (handwashing), with no more than four variances per year, as observed by supervisor. 5.4. Maintains a complete understanding of emergency procedures with no more than one observed or noted variance during my code (drill or real). 5.5. Regularly maintains work area and equipment in a neat and orderly manner; assists in the cleaning and organizing of department on own initiative and reports any malfunctioning equipment, as observed by supervisor, with no more than one variances in a six month period 6. Employee's general standards of performance and conduct conform to Hospital policy so that the best possible patient care may be provided to the patient. 6.1. Interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, physicians and fellow employees are fostered in a courteous and friendly manner with no more than one valid complaints in a 12?month period, as evidenced by patient satisfaction surveys, patient interviews, physician and employee input. 6.2. Employee is neat, well groomed, and observes the Hospital dress code, wears identification badge while on duty, 100% of the time, as observed by the supervisor. 6.3. Employee does not abuse or take advantage of Paid Time Off, as documented by attendance records or time sheets. 6.4. Employee provides proper notification for absences or tardiness and schedules time off in accordance with departmental policy. 6.5. When requested, employee is consistently willing to work overtime or adjust personal schedule to accommodate the department workload, as noted by the supervisor 6.6. Employee takes corrective action to improve performance on problem areas when pointed out, within two weeks, as observed by supervisor 6.7. Remains calm during stressful situations 6.8. Maintains all designated Hospital information confidential at all times with no variance as observed by supervisor.
Associates Degree and/or education required to obtain RDMS certification, or 10+ years experience specifically in perinatal imaging.
Demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine sonography
One (1) years' practical experience in Ultrasound or related field. Requires ARDMS registration in OB/GYN by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)."
RDMS (OB) Required. Nucal Translucency preferred.
Knowledge of anatomy, pathology and Ultrasound equipment, Competence in obtaining adequate sonographic images and discriminating images selected for interpretation. Skill in the interpretation of anatomical and pathological content of images.
Maintain an organized schedule of patient examinations. Set up and operate Ultrasonic equipment. Responsible for specific special procedure areas in Ultrasound. Maintain teaching file to be used during instruction of students, residents and staff of other departments. Respond to and perform procedures during emergencies.Must meet the performance expectations as defined in the Sonographer 1 position description. Performance and
competency will be assessed continually and reviewed annually by supervisor /manager. Any areas that are determined to be unsatisfactory will require additional training and re-evaluation within 90 days.
Responsible for locating and identifying information concerning patient histories need for correlation with Ultrasound scans. Required to recognize the significance of all structures that are visualized and to recognize and interpret anatomical and pathological content of images obtained. Be proficient in performing other special procedures.
