Reporting to the Executive Director, Medical Staff Services, the Physician Contract Manager is responsible for oversight and management of all non-legal aspects of physician contracting within Yale New Haven Health and its affiliated hospitals and Northeast Medical Group. The Manager works collaboratively with representatives from Legal & Risk Services to ensure that contracts are appropriate and are in compliance with Stark Regulations and other federal or regulatory guidelines governing physician contracts and payment to physicians. Oversees a staff of Physician Contract Coordinators in the day to day work associated with contract renewal and signature processes including facilitating review by business owners and others involved in the initial, renewal and any amendment processes. Ensures that contracts are maintained and updated in accordance with Fair Market Value analyses and oversees the implementation and utilization of database systems and data integrity to provide accurate and detailed reporting.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Responsible for the initiation and maintenance of physician contracts.
    • 1.1 Upon notification from the business owner requesting a physician contract as to the party involved and type of contract, assigns the contract to appropriate staff and, utilizing template contracts created or approved by the Legal + Risk Services Department, oversees the initiation of the process of review with appropriate stakeholders and the business owner. Ensures that appropriate documentation is maintained electronically evidencing the review and signature process. Oversees staff in making sure that proper data elements are entered into Contract Management software for purposes of tracking, reporting and renewal.
  • 2. Responsible for ensuring that contracts are paid in accordance with established terms.
    • 2.1 Through oversight of Physician Contract Coordinators, manages the payment of physicians ensuring that payment is consistent with the terms of the relevant contract or contracts.
  • 3. Responsible for the oversight and management of an appropriate physician contract management software system.
    • 3.1 Works with vendor, Executive Director and other staff within Medical Staff Administration and Legal & Risk Services to establish the software system including, table and process content, signature and review work flows, loading of template contracts, etc.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required. Bachelors degree in paralegal services strongly preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years experience in the development, management and oversight of significant volumes of physician and health care contract management and associated software systems required preferably in a health system or large hospital. Some management experience in overseeing staff strongly preferred.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Must have demonstrated experience as noted under "experience" as well as extraordinary organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have outstanding and clear verbal and written skills. Ability to manage the oversight of hundreds of contractual relationships through the use of technology in order to manage and meet deadlines for expiration and renewal. Exceptional database and software management skills and ability to collaborate with others in Medical Staff Administration as well as Information Systems to leverage software to meet tracking and reporting needs.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

Travel within YNHHS will be occasionally necessary. Ability to work at a computer sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
