SUMMARY

Under the direction of the PSM the of Digestive Health the high Endoscopy HLD Specialist will be responsible for

ensuring all endoscopy areas of HLD operations are performing best practices and are compliant with all standards

and meet regulatory requirements across YNHH. The HLD Specialist will develop, plan, and coordinate the

orientation and continuing education or personnel performing HLD in conjunction of the managers. Based on

assessment and evaluation, the HLD specialist will also assess the physical environment where the process occurs

to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Works with Disinfection Coordinator for the on-going development and revision of department policies ad procedures governing all facets of HLD operations throughout endoscopy sites required by regulatory agencies
  • 2. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures governing HLD and supply processing functions.
  • 3. Interacts with scope vendors, the disinfection coordinator, the regulatory team and infection prevention team.
  • 4. Interacts and collaborates with staff from all endoscopy sites, facilitating standardization and compliance to HLD standards.
  • 5. Takes direction from the Disinfection coordinator to ensure quality assurance for scope handling and reprocessing.
  • 6. Demonstrates critical thinking and ability to correct processes when needed. Ability to identify problem areas and work with managers to develop solutions.
  • 7. Serve as a point person to coordinate scope maintenance and needed services to ensure operations and prevent any downtime.
  • 8. Performs on going assessments of the education needs of all GI instrument techs and staff.
  • 9. Coordinates new GI instrument techs and GI tech orientation in conjunction of the manager and educator.
  • 10. Must be willing to perform special projects when needed.
  • 11. Maintain membership in professional organizations such as SGNA
  • 12. Continues to stay current in regulatory changes, manufacturer updates, and regulatory requirements.
  • 13. Able to fill in for staff when there are staffing needs at all Endoscopy areas.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

Associates degree or higher, Certification in HLD

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum of 2 years of GI tech experience

 

LICENSURE

 

Endoscopic Reprocessing Certification

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Interaction and development of relationships with managers and staff of all levels, independent, and sensitive to organizational structures. Working knowledge of computer software (word, excel, and PowerPoint). Demonstrated ability to provide education. Knowledgeable of materials management systems, inventory, and ordering. Understanding of professional organizations expectations and regulatory changes. Ability to travel to different sites.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND

 

Must be able to stand for long periods of time and able to lift equipment.

 

Additional Information

This role will need to have endoscopy and spd experience. HLD processing and the ability to mentor, lead, and communicate with all Healthcare disciplines.
