In addition to the daily histology responsibilities, this employee takes on a leadership role within the section. Must oversee personnel and technical procedures while possessing an in depth knowledge of the histology department. Must have the ability to work independently while aiding and collaborating with the section manager. Data correlation, instrument trouble shooting, new employee training and problem solving are required. Will participate in quality control, quality assurance and inventory management programs of the laboratory as needed. Excellent organizational and technical skills are required, with multi-tasking a priority.
2 years of college, ASCP certification or at least three years of experience in an active histology laboratory with on the job training; Bachelor degree preferred
Minimum 5 years of histology lab work. Documented expertise in all aspects of job responsibility.
ASCP certification or equivalent
Maintain a working knowledge of all aspects of Histology to aid in troubleshooting problems in any area of the section. Intense concentration and attention to detail are required with minimal tolerance for errors. Work under stressful conditions with high time pressure, strong interpersonal skills required. Must have a good working knowledge of the AP computer system as well as general computer use. Takes an active role in overseeing the operation of the section in the absence of the manager.
Lifting of medium weight objects. Close machine work and the use of sharp knives and instruments. Intense concentration and attention to detail, average laboratory conditions; exposure to formaldehyde, caustic agents and other hazardous solvents.
