Coordinates resources to provide inpatient services consistent with appropriate patient care and industry standards. Is responsible for all aspects of day to day activity of patient pharmaceutical distribution services. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • 1. Maintain supervision and human resource responsibilities overall BH Milford Campus pharmacist and technicains. Conducts performance appraisals for Staff Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
    • 1.1 Processes all performance appraisals on or before due date as documented by appraisal forms and employee feedback.
  • 2. Ensures department inpatient distribution services are consistent with patient care needs. Attend nursing/provider meetings and report out quality metrics related to pharmacy services (e.g. barcode, diversion tracking, automation use, med errors).
  • 3. Assist in developing and maintain programs and policies for monitoring and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of pharmacy services.
    • 3.1 Ensures adequate staffing levels for the inpatient distributive service as documented by the daily assignment sheets, supervisor observation and feedback from staff.
  • 4. Coordinates scheduling for pharmacists and technical staff and time cards as appropriate per hospital and departmental policies.
  • 5. Foster open inter and intradepartmental communication between staff and managers as well as nurses and physicians. Participate in departmental and organizational and health system committees as directed by BH pharmacy leadership.
  • 6. Participates in recruitment, selection, orientation, training and performance management of professional and technical staff in the area of your oversight.
  • 7. Oversee clinical and operational and regulatory processes in coordination with Bridgeport Hospital main campus. ensure these processes are safe, cost-effective and efficient medication management. In addition identify and execute process improvements, in operations, drug utilization and other applicable performance improvement projects as defined by the Director of Pharmacy and hospital administration.
  • 8. Communicate the status of projects, staff concerns and problems to appropriate leadership at BH pharmacy.
  • 9. Effectively demonstrate the principles consistent with High Reliability Organizations.
  • 10. Coordinate the identification and communication and resolution of problems relating to daily operational activities.
  • 11. Track progress of quality, safety and regulatory compliance for Milford Campus. Maintain knowledge of Joint Commissions, Drug Control laws and National Patient Safety Goals.
  • 12. Ensure proper fiscal management of pharmacy budget goals in alignment with Bridgeport Hospital.




Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Advanced Degree (MS or PharmD) and/or completion of a residency in hospital pharmacy from a program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacist is preferred.




Three years experience in a hospital pharmacy setting with strong working knowledge of the compliance and regulatory standards related to hospital pharmacy practice. Management experience preferred.




Eligible for licensure in Connecticut.




Strong project management and problem solving skills desired. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate work between diverse groups are essential. Knowledge of automation technologies pertinent to medication use is strongly preferred.




While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
