SUMMARY

Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of department deliverables using multiple internal and external database systems.  Supports the Office of Strategy Management and system strategy through the development of market assessments. Develops integrated analyses of national, state and local healthcare trends and assists in identifying market trends. Oversees the gathering and reconciling of data from large disparate healthcare billing, market, state data and other data systems.  Responsible for the design and maintenance of databases and software programs, analysis design, error checking and data cleaning while adhering to project timelines.  Demonstrates complex problem-solving ability and ability to improve processes. Develops expertise related to the data to detect issues for further investigation.  Develops an understanding of medical and strategy terminology, code sets and service lines.  Independently researches and recommends best practices for data management and analysis.  Proactively provides suggestions for improving department data analytics.  Manages assigned data initiatives from discovery phase through implementation. Participates on Strategic Intelligence Team in delivering high-quality, actionable information to the organization that informs strategic decision-making and enhance the organization IQ.

Responsibilities

  1. Designs and maintains central and relational databases within the OSM. 
  2. Maintains and improves standard central databases for efficiency and effectiveness as measured by team deliverable timeliness and accuracy. 
  3. Ensures standard professional look of final deliverables, facilitated by automation of outputs where possible.  This includes standard database improvement for efficiency and effectiveness as measured by team deliverable timeliness and accuracy.
  4. Develops error checking and auditing systems to minimize possibility of missing or erroneous data and to ensure secure high quality data for all deliverables.
  5. Develops, organizes and maintains a logical library to store data files with standard naming protocol.
  6. Develops comprehensive market-based and clinical program-specific market overviews and analyses using inpatient state data sets and internal organizational data to identify trends, changes, developments and other key conclusions.
  7. Coordinates comprehensive and accurate data analysis and interpretation to support the OSM team.
  8. Coordinates data management support to Delivery Network entities.
  9. Creates maps to help visually display data points and key information, including dot density maps, heat maps, locations of healthcare facilities and other types of maps
  10. Assists in creating accurate, value-add executive summaries, reports, presentations, memos and other deliverables.
  11. Develops expertise in relevant internal and external data systems and databases including CHIME, SPARCS, other state databases, Sg2, IQvia, and others).
  12. Supports the development of dashboards to visualize and automate display of data to be updated on a regular basis.
  13. Ensures accurate and timely uploading of purchased data sets into the centralized standard database(s) to minimize downtime and facilitate accurate and timely deliverables.
  14. Develops a good understanding of medical terminology, code sets and topics to most effectively contribute to the team and provide better informed value-add deliverables.
  15. Effectively interfaces and coordinates with other individuals to integrate and understand data from other information systems internally.
  16. Maintains up-to-date logbooks of all data file details, including data dictionaries/glossaries and latest codebooks.
  17. Checks for new code introductions and ensures that they are incorporated into datasets and service line definitions.
  18. Pursues professional growth through development of service line expertise and participation in appropriate approved seminars and training that further professional knowledge and is aligned with the work of the department.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties):

Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Math, Statistics, or related field with emphasis in information management.

 

EXPERIENCE: (number of years and type required to meet an acceptable level of performance):

Three years professional work experience preferred in healthcare analytics. Experience working with large datasets in data analysis and reporting required.  Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude in Microsoft Excel (specifically, Pivot tables), Tableau, SQL, Access, Word and PowerPoint.  Candidate must have excellent communication skills, the ability to think critically, the ability to manage multiple complex work tasks simultaneously, and the ability to improve existing processes.  Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful and comprehensive analysis using the appropriate technical tools.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Excellent analytical and quantitative skills. Ability to effectively conduct various types of analysis including: process, marketplace, physician, organizational financial, operational and staffing.  Experience with large databases (such as CHIME, SPARCS, other state databases, Claritas, Epic, MS-DRGs, ICD-10s, CPTs, HCUPS, etc.) and internal/external databases strongly preferred.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient with computer information systems, data manipulation and reporting, demographics, such as Maptitude or other mapping software, inpatient and outpatient calculators/forecasters, pivot tables, Tableau, Microsoft SQL, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND: Must have the ability to travel to various sites across the health system.
