SUMMARY

The Assistant Mgr. Language Services Operations will collaborate and assist the System Director Patient Experience Operations with oversight and support daily operations of the Language Services Department, and will supervise the Language Services Assistants, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Coordinator and the ASL interpreter. In addition he/she will supervise the Bilingual Competency Program for the Yale New Haven Health System. Considered as an expert on operations, the Assistant Mgr. Language Services Operations will assist the System Director Patient Experience Operations, to educate on best practices, policies and procedures of the Language Services operations in all Yale New Haven Hospital settings. The Assistant Mgr. Language Services Operations will assist and support the System Director Patient Experience Operations to ensure that all operation practices are consistent with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Collaborate and assist in providing general administrative support to the Language Services Department Operations.
    • 1.1 Intervenes on interpreter's assignments and schedules.
  • 2. Overseeing the Language Services Assistants
    • 2.1 Assists and coordinate the posting, hiring and recruitment process for new Language Services Assistant positions.
  • 3. Overseeing the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Coordinator and ASL interpreter
    • 3.1 Assists and coordinate the posting, hiring and recruitment process for new candidates.
  • 4. Bilingual Competency Program
    • 4.1 Collaborates and communicates with all disciplines across the system to implement, enhance/expand the Bilingual Competency Program.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

Bachelor's degree required. *Candidates pursuing Bachelor's degree will be considered, provided they obtain the degree within 2 years of accepting position.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum of three (3) years supervisory/team lead experience in an office setting, preferably in operations. Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Excellent organizational, problem solving, record keeping, multi-tasking. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills required. Able to lead by building positive rapport with staff, physicians, and clients. Able to coach and resolve conflicts tactfully and respectfully between staff members, and others. Must be dedicated to building a positive workplace environment at YNHH sites and mutually beneficial relationships. Continually assesses performance, incorporating new standards and skills when possible. Serves as role model by adhering to departmental, Hospital, JCAHO, STATE, and Federal regulations, as appropriate. Participates in JCAHO Continuous Readiness activities.
