The primary functions of the Physician Assistant (PA-C) will be to provide comprehensive care to the Interventional Radiology patients under the supervision of the Attending Interventional Radiologists. Each PA -C will have a designated supervising physician.

Responsibilities
- 1. Clinical
- 1.1 Assumes primary patient care responsibility for patients on the Heart and Vascular Center Interventional Radiology service, under the supervision of the Attending physicians. Identifies health care needs, and assesses health status of patients during inpatient hospitalization and subsequent outpatient care follow-up, if appropriate. Monitors patients across the health care continuum, and develops strategies to avoid hospitalization, and/or decrease length of stay. Obtains comprehensive health histories, and performs complete physical examinations during hospitalization. Identifies and collaborates with the Interventional Radiology care teams in the design of patient treatment plans. Communicates patient status information, attends daily rounds, and documents progress in the medical record. Enters admission orders, orders appropriate tests and therapies, interprets results and outcomes, and discusses appropriate interventions with the physicians. Educates patients about treatment plans and discharge care. May perform advanced technological procedures related to interventional radiology, as defined by standardized procedures. Evaluates the patient with regard to discharge status. Performs discharge examinations and completes paperwork, and discharge summaries. Communicates patient's treatment plans with referring physicians.
- 2. Education
- 2.1 Acts as a clinical resource for residents and fellows, and as a role model /preceptor for new advanced practice providers, physician assistant students, advanced practice nursing students, and nurses.. Maximizes opportunities in the clinical setting for informal education of staff , patients, and families. Identifies learning needs of team members, patients and families. Provides bedside teaching and supervision of procedures.
- 3. Research
- 3.1 May support the research mission through collaboration with investigators and protocol personnel. May support the research mission through the collection and dissemination of research findings and data in the clinical practice setting.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree and graduation from an approved and accredited Physician Assistant program is required.
EXPERIENCE
One (1) to two (2) years caring for interventional radiology patients is preferred.
LICENSURE
Certified as a Physician Assistant by the national Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
SPECIAL SKILLS
Excellent clinical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision . Proficiency and knowledge with interventional radiology procedures preferred.
Additional Information
This APP will work with inpatient management and care, outpatient follow-up clinics, consults, and inpatient clinics (line and drain removals). Experience with IR or Inpatient Care preferred.
