SUMMARY

Oversees clinical operations of the Epilepsy Program within the Neuroscience Service Line across the continuum of

care across the YNHHS. This Manager is responsible for the standardization of clinical practice of the Epilepsy

program across Neuroscience service line including in -patient and ambulatory care sites. This Manager provides

clinical support to ensure efficient and effective operations in the delivery of 'signature of care? high quality, safe

patient care across the health system. Responsible for identifying clinical variation within Epilepsy across

Neuroscience Care sites, the Manager develops and implements performance improvement activities and works

collaboratively with physician partners and Service Line administration to ensure effective clinical and administrative

functions. The Manager is responsible for operational budgets for specific programs within the Service Line .

Responsible for executing strategic business and operational initiatives to maintain Service Line excellence as well

as achieve financial, clinical and quality goals of the Service Line throughout the healthcare system. Provides

oversight for clinical and administrative staff who support the Epilepsy Program ambulatory locations .

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operations/Clinical Support

provides leadership, guidance and direction for both clinical and administrative staff across the

continuum of care at a system level

oversees clinical, operational and regulatory processes in order to provide effective and efficient

operations

Identifies and executes process improvements in order to establish consistent signature care across the

health system

1 .4 develops and monitors performance improvement, quality and patient safety initiatives

1 .5 assists in the development and implementation of practice integrations

evaluates and optimizes work flow practices in order to carry out daily operations in an efficient , safe,

high quality manner

proposes standardized clinical practices, processes and workflows across YNHH ambulatory locations

in accordance with industry best practices and guidelines

evaluates work processes of new care sites and lead teams to determine changes required for

successful integration

collaborates with physicians and staff to ensure appropriate integration of functions across multiple

entities (Yale Medicine, YNHHS delivery networks including ambulatory sites) in order to achieve

optimal patient experience

collaborates in developing and implementing processes which achieve strategically relevant quality

outcomes

1 .11 promotes and supports clinical trial activities

RESPONSIBILITIES

assess, improve and develop patient care protocols across the continuum in collaboration with

physician leadership

regulations and best practices

acts as a mentor and provides support for clinical team leads (i.e. Team Leader Epilepsy RN

Coordinator)

2. Leadership/Human Resources

collaborates with administrative and physician leadership in recruitment, onboarding, orientation and

professional development of staff

2 .2 establishes effective staffing model in order to meet program objectives and regulatory requirements

2 .3 ensures that staff meet all certification and accreditation requirements

maintains service line culture that fosters collaboration and teamwork, exceptional patient experience,

clinical performance excellence and staff engagement across continuum of care (inpatient and

ambulatory)

understands vision and participates in development of strategic program planning in collaboration of

physician partners, administration and staff

2 .6 helps set clear goals which support service line strategies

2 .7 serves as program liaision to Neuroscience governance structure

2 .8 provides guidance and effectively communicates with staff

2 .9 collaborates in developing a highly skilled multidisciplinary team who are utilized effectively

participates in design and implementation of service line strategies by influencing staff and championing

projects within the program

2 .11 participates in interdepartmental Neuroscience leadership activities across the YNHHS

2 .12 builds relationships with internal and external stakeholders of the Epilepsy program

2 .13 fosters environment of teamwork across YNHHS and other entities (Yale Medicine)

participates in community outreach activities in support of the program and builds relationships with

stakeholders

assists with organization of educational programs, both outreach activities for patients/families as well

as health care professionals at multiple levels (CME, etc)

3. Finance/Budget

3 .1 develops and manages program budget to ensure the delivery of cost effective, high quality care

ensures that the required resources are available ( staff, technology) to meet program needs in

collaboration with physician and administrative leadership

analyzes and monitor financial performance and provides report out at service line leadership, in order to

accomplish mitigation/growth needs

provides detailed rationale for budget variances and prepares and presents financial reports to key

stakeholders

3 .5 evaluates program's operation for implementation of cost effective changes

4. Patient Experience

4 .1 communicates results of patient experience metrics to physician partners, administration and staff

4 .2 adheres to and holds all staff accountable to standards of performance and excellence

collaborates with patient relations and utilizes resources appropriately in order to provide service

recovery as necessary

4 .4 fosters delivery of patient centered care model

identifies and analyzes trends in outcomes, patient experience and practice excellences in data driven

model

establishes key metrics, monitors patient experience data and collaborates with physician leadership,

administration and staff in improvement/recognition activiities

4 .8 facilities marketing initiatives in order to advance program's outreach

4 .9 facilitates program's response to patient issues/complaints and implements service recovery strategies

5. Compliance/Regulatory

5 .1 ensures compliance with federal, state and regional regulations

5 .2 supports TJC standards compliance and specialty certification activities

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION (number of years and type required to perform the position duties):

- Baccalaureate Degree in nursing

- Masters Degree in relevant field required (MSN, MHA, MBA, Organizational Leadership)

EXPERIENCE (number of years and type required to meet an acceptable level of performance):

Five years of clinical nurse experience (inpatient and ambulatory care settings) and a minimum of 1 year

leadership/supervisory experience (this may include committees, charge role, project management or other

experiences that demonstrate leadership qualities).

- Working knowledge of and experience with regulatory and TJC standards and requirements

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Ability to direct a diverse work force. Ability to manage and remain effective with multiple priorities. Excellent

communication skills. Excellent clinical skills. Knowledgeable of Quality Improvement processes, and capable of

implementing concepts. Ability to implement and support change required. Ability to keep spreadsheets of volumes

per division.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND:

Must be willing to travel to multiple sites within the Service Line across the health care system
