Operates a wide variety of complex technical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the Pulmonary Physiology Laboratory and Arterial Blood Gas Laboratory. Continuously monitors patient and response and makes appropriate suggestions to the treatment plan in consult with the interns, residents, attending physicians and pulmonary physiologist. Operates a wide variety of complex technical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Continuously monitors patient and response and makes appropriate suggestions to the cardiologist and/or angiographer. Assists the cardiologist and/or angiographer during the performance of cardiac catheterization with and without angioplasty. Understands all technical aspects of Cardiac Catheterization and Primary Cardiac Angioplasty.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Two years of college (A.S. degree in Respiratory Therapy, JRCRTE approved college)(B.S. preferred). Four weeks training in Cardiac Catheterization and Primary Angioplasty and 6 months on-the-job training.
EXPERIENCE
One year in-hospital clinical practice experience. One year in sub-specialty area(s).
LICENSURE
Registered or Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy. Registered or Certified in Pulmonary Function Testing. Basic Life Support Certification by American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification by American Heart Association. Certification in Arterial Blood Gas Sampling by Medical Director, Respiratory Care Services, GHA. Licensed by the State of Connecticut in Respiratory Therapy. Registered in Cardiac Invasive Specialties by Cardiac Credentialing International (RCIS - CCI) preferred. CPFT, RPFT preferred (CPFT within 6 months of hire).
SPECIAL SKILLS
The Senior Cardiopulmonary Technician is responsible for the performance of a wide range of complex procedures that frequently involve highly specialized equipment. These procedures include pulmonary function testing in the Pulmonary Physiology Laboratory, and hemodynamic monitoring and scrub assistant in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Exposure to respiratory and other pathogens including drug resistant strains of tuberculosis and A. Staph, HIV, and hepatitis B. Exposure to blood and body fluids. Exposure to glutaraldehyde, pentamidine, ribovirin, radiation and other potentially harmful substances listed in the MSDS.
