The Community Outreach Associate systematically plans, facilitates and implements injury prevention programs based on national standards.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Child Passenger Safety Program
    • 1.1 Fitting Station 1. Schedule and book appointment for fitting station using email and car seat phone line 2. Triage phone calls for child safety seats and appointments 3. Assist in keeping inventory of supplies and child seats used for the program 4. Enter completed fitting station checklists in database and file accordingly 5. Keep all information including recall sheets and fact sheets available and up-to-date 6. Work as CPST at YNHH fitting station locations as assigned 7. Assist with community CPS events throughout the state both with the YNHH Injury Prevention program as well as with other DOT approved fitting stations as assigned 8. Make reminder calls and send emails for appointments and follow-up calls with families after services 9. Assist in maintaining database of all car seats distributed and installed 10. Prepares reports, as requested, for injury prevention coordinator, manager and/or medical director 11. Abide by all CPS grant related requirements
  • 2. General Injury Prevention Programs
    • 2.1 General Injury Prevention Programs 1. Assist with community outreach and education for injury prevention initiatives including but not limited to bicycle helmet safety, safe sleep, fall prevention, home and fire safety 2. Set up and attend community health fairs; seeking opportunities for community exposure. 3. Assist with development and implementation of additional Injury Prevention programs as requested 4. Maintain database for distribution of all safety equipment including: quantity, type, size, and location of
  • 3. Media and Outreach
    • 3.1 Media and Outreach 1. Assist Injury Prevention Coordinator, Manager and/or Medical Director with public relations opportunities to promote the program and increase community awareness on initiatives and programs
  • 4. Professional Development
    • 4.1 Participates with community agencies and professional organizations as it relates to Child Passenger Safety, helmet safety and other Injury Prevention programs
  • 5. Accountabilities
    • 5.1 Involved in strengthening relationships in the community through culturally appropriate activities

Qualifications

EDUCATION


Bachelor's degree in education, public health or a related field preferred Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification required Child Passenger Safety Instructor Certification preferred or must be obtained within 18 months of hire


EXPERIENCE


Minimum 3 year experience in an appropriate setting preferred.


LICENSURE


National Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification required. National Child Passenger Safety Instructor Certification Required within 18 months of hire.


SPECIAL SKILLS


Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstration of positive teaching abilities. Knowledge of the principles of teaching the adult learner. Requires working collaboratively with the Injury Prevention Coordinator and Injury Prevention team.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Installation of car seats in concert with National Child Passenger Safety Guidelines and CT law. Lifting and installing of car seats of up to 35 pounds required. Must be able to work variable hours and days to meet the needs of the program. Must be able to work outside in inclement weather 12 months a year.
