Yale New Haven Health is seeking an experienced attorney to join its corporate healthcare practice group.   We are seeking a colleague who will be able to take initiative, work independently to manage a high volume and complex workload and be a collaborative team member in the Legal & Risk Services Department.

Responsibilities

The Senior Assistant Counsel provides a wide range of legal services for Yale New Haven Health System and its affiliates.  This position is responsible for day-to-day advice and counsel on issues related to the operation and management of YNHH affiliates, with a particular focus in the areas of:

 

  • Professional services and employment agreements with physicians
  • Medicare reimbursement issues
  • Management services and other compliance arrangements
  • Fraud and abuse
  • Stark Law
  • HIPAA/HITECH
  • Contract review and negotiation
  • Responses to governmental investigations
  • Joint ventures, asset purchases and other significant transactions

The Senior Assistant Counsel is responsible for identifying and managing to critical legal risk exposures, retaining and managing outside counsel as needed, supervising the work of more junior professional staff and contributing positively to the work of the corporate healthcare practice.

This position requires excellent interpersonal, organizational, contract drafting and written and oral communication skills and the ability to issue spot, escalate when appropriate, manage competing priorities and directly advise leadership and executives across the system.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited institution
  • Admission to Connecticut bar or ability to waive in or qualify as Authorized House Counsel
  • Five-ten years of experience in corporate health care practice with some portion of that time in a healthcare setting preferred
