SUMMARY

Provides a wide range of child care and teaching experiences for young children in the Yale New Haven Hospital Day Care Center to support group teachers in attaining their mission.

Responsibilities

• 1. Assists group teachers with planning and execution of a developmentally appropriate program for children in their group as observed by supervisor
• 1.1 Respects the value of play for young children as indicated by efforts made to enhance this activity as observed by supervisor.
• 2. Provides physical care of group children to ensure their health and safety.
• 2.1 Realistically assesses the physical needs of children and responds in a timely, flexible manner as observed by supervisor.
• 3. Ensures daily communication with staff, parents, and children for the proper smooth running of the center.
• 3.1 Responds to directions regarding appropriate communication with parents as observed by supervisor.
• 4. Demonstrates willingness to continue professional growth in order to help assure that the goals of the Center are met.
• 4.1 Reads child development literature as recommended by supervisor.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School diploma or Generalized Educational Development certificate (GED) required. Preference to 12 credits in early childhood or a Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA). The CDA would be required within 12 months of employment if the 12 credits in early childhood or CDA was not met at hiring.

EXPERIENCE

Some experience working with infants through 5 year olds preferred. Strong preference for one (1) to two (2) years experience providing care to young children; or equivalent combination of experience and/or training.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of principles of child development and child behavior.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Ability to climb up and down stairs, and move from a seated position on the floor to an upright stance. Ability to lift 45 lbs.
