The Registered Nurse practices within the Patient and Family Centered Care Model will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients, coordinate ancillary staff and collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team.
The Medicine unit is committed to providing quality and compassionate care to our patients and their families. The Medicine unit, comprised of 46 beds, specializes in the care of adult and geriatric patients with variety of medical conditions such as Stroke, Diabetes, COPD, Pneumonia, Sepsis, Dementia, Dialysis etc. Patient safety is promoted through the video monitoring fall prevention program. The unit is moving towards becoming the Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) unit and a Dementia friendly hospital. Medical/surgical certification and Geriatric certification are recommended for the nurses. Staff on our unit are involved in Shared Governance council and are supported in shared decision making model. The nursing care model is primary care system which consists of Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretaries, Transition of care nurse, Clinical Coordinator and Nurse Manager.

EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
EXPERIENCE
Previous nursing experience required
LICENSURE
RN in State of Connecticut or Permit; Basic Life Support (BLS)
PHYSICAL DEMAND
May be exposure to infectious diseases. Will be exposed to physical, mental and emotional illness as well as end of life conditions and death. Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care. Standing/walking for more than half of the day. Frequently bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting and lifting. Must be able to assist pushing/pulling/lifting patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds.
