The Perinatal Coordinator will work in coordination with the Perinatologists to provide optimal care to high Risk Maternity patients. She will serve as an educational resource and liaison to other departments coordinating Perinatal Education by assessing, developing and implement programs within the functional areas of continuing education.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Educates women with diabetes in pregnancy, as well as, appropriate follow-up post partum care.
  • 2. Works closely with Perinatologists to co-manage women with diabetes in pregnancy.
  • 3. Presents classes, competencies and in-services on diabetes in pregnancy for staff.
  • 4. Completes statistical data and related information required for maintanence and recertification of ADA recognition.
  • 5. Assist with Perinatal Safety Meetings and Perinatal Safety Guideline Committee.
  • 6. Demonstrates professional growth through certification, publication, quality improvement and / or research.
  • 7. Provide feedback and updates to Manager of Central Scheduling regarding front office workflow and educational needs.
  • 8. Fiscally responsible for day-to-day purchases for department.
  • 9. Facilitates audits of contracted personnel.
  • 10. Activiely participates with assigned hospital, systems and departmental committees, contributing expertise and promoting department philosophy.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

BSN, MSN preferred

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Current seven (7) years clinical nursing experience in Labor and Delivery or Perinatal Nursing.

 

LICENSURE

 

RN in State of Connecticut; AWHONN Fetal monitor Certification; Certified Diabetic Educator preferred

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to motivate and teach patients and staff. Ability to develop and coordinate education programs. Clinical proficiency, strong leadership/management, coordination, evaluation and clinical judgement skills required. Abillity to multi-task and prioritize accordingly.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND

 

Works in clinical, office and classroom settings. A flexible work schedule will be indicated to accommodate classes and the needs of the department.
