The Major Gift Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of 150-200 donors/prospects/suspects across the Delivery Network, and securing philanthropic gifts of $25,000 or more towards the overall individual major gift goal of the department set annually. This position manages and applies moves management to the entire portfolio, conducts 125 visits per year; works closely with the Vice President and Director of Development to set strategy, etc., supports and promotes both major and planned giving, and will be responsible for the implementation of a grateful patient program. This individual will develop and maintain relationships with donors and prospects, and will function as part of the L+M Healthcare Development management team in achieving set financial and visit goals, among others. This individual will understand and communicate the various funding needs of the hospital to volunteer solicitors, board members and prospective donors.
- 1. Manage and apply moves management to approximately 150 -200 donors in support of the individual Major Gift goal for the department
- 2. Solicit and close major and leadership gifts of $25,000 or more in support of targeted Hospital priorities
- 3. Conduct 125 visits annually
- 4. Advance balance of donors in portfolio via moves management-from discovery to cultivation/solicitation- ultimately incorporating them into top 25 list.
- 5. Create solicitation proposals specific to donor interest
- 6. Manage input of donor information in Raisers Edge inclusive of call reports, moves management details and related information
- 7. Utilize software programs to conduct donor research and strategy development
- 8. In service to the President and VP write special project prospect letters; proposals and email correspondences
- 9. Steward donors via acknowledgement letters, special stewardship letters, phone calls, visits and special major gift events
- 10. Provide Development team with timely updates/insights regarding prospects
- 11. Coordinate with VP of Development on gift agreements.
- 12. Review, assess and secure visits with new donors via patient lists and research reports
- 13. Track/follow-up on late pledge payments
- 14. Work collaboratively with team members across the DN to plan and implement events, including donor celebrations and gatherings.
- 15. Work occasional late evenings and weekends to staff special events.
- 16. In partnership with the team and the medical staff, develops and implements a Grateful Patient Program
- 17. Actively participates in WH Foundation Board, and LM Development Committee meetings
- 18. Supports the team in the development of written materials that communicate LM and WH Hospitals philanthropic story.
Bachelors Degree required, Masters preferred.
8 to 10 years successful experience in Development with emphasis in soliciting and closing major gifts. Planned giving experience desired. Knowledge of Annual fund and operations, including gift processing desirable. Raisers Edge experience strongly preferred. Ability to understand and couple/link the needs, interests and affinities of leadership level donors with relevant hospital initiatives. Act as a liaison between donors, doctors and Hospital leadership to promote institutional strategic goals with philanthropic giving via the development of longstanding relationships. Demonstrate leadership by acquiring awareness and mastery of all key functional sectors/service lines of the hospital and broader organizations in service of fundraising goals. Self-starting ability and management of expansive portfolio of high level donors including: outreach, cultivation and solicitation strategies. Completion of team/group assignments and ability to take on projects as assigned.
Proven track record of attaining cold call prospect visits. Proven track record of soliciting and closing leadership level philanthropic support. Consistently demonstrates exceptional communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build enduring relationships. High emotional intelligence. Interdisciplinary understanding of healthcare industry trends in relation to donor base. Strong writing and editorial ability. Ability to be flexible, offer leadership, best practice advice and project supervise. Active member of Development team.
